Down CGA web pages

Most seem back up now, any major differences that yall can notice?
Did not see any major differences, everything we were looking for was there now that it is back up. The site seems to not be a glitchy as before - the links to other pages such as sports pages and results seem smoother.

The structure appears the same, but certain content has been scrubbed.

For instance, the Society of Women Engineers had a trip to headquarters and the shipyard in Baltimore planned in March (daughter was planning to go). It was canceled after all the memos subsequent to the Executive Order came out. Now, there’s no evidence of the SWE ever existing on the CGA website. I’m sure the same goes for many other clubs and organizations.

https://uscga.edu/academics/schools-and-departments/school-of-engineering-and-cyber-systems/ lists SWE

That contains a link to the main, external SWE site along with a disclaimer indicating it’s a non-Coast Guard site and doesn’t represent any implicit or explicit endorsement by the United States Coast Guard etc.

SWE is no longer referenced on the page with academy academic/professional clubs & societies.

Thanks, I see the page you are referring to.

Yep, we noticed that SWE and several other clubs previously listed under the DEI heading on the club portion of the website were removed and not added to other areas, one being Cadets Against Sexual Assault…even though training on sexual assault is not a new “DEI” initiative; I remember it being taught as early as ‘06 when I was in, and the “DEI” terminology started in 2021. Just frustrating because addressing sexual assault/rape is not about politics or diversity…it’s about human decency first, and ofc upholding the law because, well, it is a felony. Also, Society of Women Engineers was created in the 1950s…also not a new DEI initiative.

Personally I think it’s confusing they would take it so far given that the Trump administration just criticized the leadership of the USCGA for poorly handling sexual assault claims and cover-ups naming it as a reason for her removal. Now to remove a club that has prevention of assault as its focus? How do people not understand that removing “DEI” does not mean erasing history of people or programs who may fall under “DEI,” like the AF with the Tuskegee Airmen video.

Fortunately, Cadets against Sexual Assault is still there. It was moved to a section called Sexual Assault Prevention, Response and Recovery.

Thank you for that info, and thank goodness, not sure why they would not just put back as an option in clubs, but happy it is still there in another area at least.

A lot of commentary on this directive re: DEI and if they are so broad that it encapsulates the Civil Rights Act and Juneteenth as DEI.

The argument being made that DEI went to far left and now going to far right.

If its accurate that 80% of 17-24 years old are unfit for service and 17% black, 18 Hispanic and 17.5 women, make up the military, given the missed recruitment targets, be interesting to see what happens over the next 4 years.
