DQ for medical AFTER appointment offer - now what?

Question (from a parent) on the process. The very helpful information here from Mr. Mullen and others references waivers in the context of candidates. What happens if one already has an appointment?

My son received an appointment offer to USAFA in January, which he accepted. In February he received a diganosis that required outpatient surgery and he notified DoDMERB. He had the surgery first week of March, has fully recovered, and supplied a release from his doctor to full physical activity with no restrictions.

However, yesterday he received a DQ because apparently a 6-month post op waiting period is required for normal standards. (He will have about 4 months by intake day.)

The letter on his portal that he showed me says, "Service Academy: If the Admissions Office determines you to be “competitive” for an offer of appointment, they will automatically initiate your medical waiver process." His portal says "Under waiver review."

Since I'm guessing he is competitive, having received an offer, does this mean a waiver has already been forwarded for review? Or that a review is being made to see if a waiver will be initiated?

What is the typical timeframe under which the review process is completed?

He told me he reached out to his ALO to clarify the process but I thought I would ask here. Thanks.

Q = Since I'm guessing he is competitive, having received an offer, does this mean a waiver has already been forwarded for review?
A = Yes

Q= What is the typical time frame under which the review process is completed?
A = There is no typical time frame, especially under telework COVID19 circumstances

Q = Not asked?
A = He should send me an email to Lawrence.E.Mullen.civ@mail.mil; provide complete name and last 4 and paste the posting above to his email :wiggle:

Thank you Mr. Mullen,

I mentioned it to him and he indicated that he has emailed you with a question on this as well. "I have it under control dad."

So I will be quiet now. :cool:

Apparently he had a typo the first time and fixed it now. But I think the main Q you answered above, in that this is the place in the process where he needs to be and now it's a matter of waiting for a waiver decision.

He told me the other day he always knew the application process would be daunting but thought that getting accepted would be the hard part. Then 2020 happened. :oops:

Thanks again for your help.

He showed me an entry in his DoDMERB portal that showed up on Monday. Mentions "correspondence posted," but it's dated 01-Jan-01. Still there today. Thought it was odd but he's going to wait and see if it updates or something. I thought I would ask here...system glitch? Or...?

OK, to the best of my knowledge, I didn't receive an email from him and asking the question on the Forums, is useless, because no one but me would know the answer and until I know who it is and the issue above.....???
