Does anyone know any information about how to audition for the drum and bugle corps? I know from years in marching band that there is a lot of time commitment in the summer, so would that mean that plebes cannot join as they are busy with PS?
You will quickly be given an opportunity to join D&B, if you want to. D&B is an integral part of the joy the class shares in learning to march at parade practice on hot, sticky afternoons beside the Severn River...
About 6 days into plebe summer you will have a D&B brief where you can audition. If you've played before, you should get in. Plebe Summer D&B has practices during sports and drill time, and they do parades twice a week with the 4/C Regiment and play pep tunes at the various "smokers" at the end of the summer.
Even drumline? And I just thought of another question. If I was also interested in club lacrosse, would I have to choose one or the other? I can't imagine it is allowed to do both.

Do what you want. Chances are you'll have to pick between the two. Some mids (like 18MIDN I am assuming) dislike D&B for whatever reason. That is their problem. Pick what you want to do while you are at USNA.
Don't listen to 18MIDN. He's acting as any mouthy mid would. I'm a 2013 grad and spent my 4 years at USNA as a proud snare drummer for D&B. As a whole, sure we received some flack from members of the brigade but I was never insulted or belittled for participating. Alot of my friends actually thought it was cool that I was a snare drummer and loved when I'd play Wipeout on the drum set at basketball games. I had nothing but amazing times in D&B and if you'd like to know more, feel free to PM me.
Better to start a new thread if you have questions then tack onto something from over a year ago. Those posting at that time may no longer even participate here.
