Dry cleaning and Laundry

Yes - this is all built in. Quite a time saver, but understand it is institutional laundry. Dry Cleaning is great. Laundry means put your mesh bag into boiling water. It does not return to you smelling like mom did it with soap, but you didn't have to spend time working on it. It is common for upperclassman to wash their own laundry at the laundry center in the dorm because you can take better care of your clothes and love the way they smell when you are done.
 
USAFA has a contract with Goodwill that will do the freshmen's laundry once a week. Often times they are not the best, but regardless it works. I gave my laundry to my designated coach (who is a sophomore) to do for me in emergency situations.

Another popular option to avoid goodwill "boiling" your clothes is to kindly ask your sponsor family if you are able to bring laundry when you visit.

Let me be clear: Kindly request permission to do any laundry.

These folks are gracious enough to open their homes to young adults who are basically complete strangers. Please be respectful!
 
As a long-time USNA sponsor, we welcome our mids doing laundry, but draw the line at uniforms fresh from the mud pit, confidence course, etc., as well as heavy bedding or throws. Industrial machines are best for that stuff.

Ask in advance, so the sponsors can get their own laundry out of the way or prioritized. Police the lint screen in the dryer - not their job to clean up after you. Ask for an intro brief on their washer and dryer. We have our own well and very soft water, and it takes very little detergent to make a lot of suds. Don’t go fall asleep while your load is in the washer and sponsor sibs may be waiting. Get it into the dryer promptly and out promptly. Set your phone or watch alarm and nap smartly. We keep a Fleet-size container of laundry detergent and don’t mind our mids using it. Always offer to bring your own but be appreciative when you use sponsor supplies.

When your parents wonder what to get the sponsor family, most of us say we don’t need gifts, but a gallon of the sponsor’s laundry detergent of choice is always welcome, or gift cards to where you know the sponsors shop. It’s the little things that get heavier usage/consumption that are appreciated.
 
My kid has 2 cadets he is coaching and he is trying to get their laundry done once a week. Those whites will be grey if you stick with Goodwill.

While I get this sentiment 100%, it is important that any impacted freshman file complaints and claims against Goodwill. This is the only way this problem will be fixed at any point. I know its been a problem for a long time, but when this happens please file a claim for reimbursement... if you need help you can send me a pm.

It is "included"- i.e. comes out of their paycheck. They should know how to use Goodwill for that and if they don't, ask someone in their squadron about it. If they really need to do their own laundry they must ask permission from their squadron commander but they are not entitled to the laundry facilities as there is barely enough washers for the upper 3 classes. At nearly any time of day the washing facilities are completely full and having a whole extra 1,000 people use it makes it worse. A coach can wash clothes for them, but again same thing- it is not part of their job to do their coachees laundry. They might not be able to do it weekly- again, back to the problem with there not being enough washers for the upper 3 classes. Just some insight. It was tough when I was a coach a few years ago and having 2 coachees who expected laundry done twice a week and sometimes more often.
