Early Action for the Class of 2022 was completed yesterday and the final group of decision letters was posted last night. For those who may not be familiar with our selection process, we conduct a thorough holistic review of every record and it's not unusual for up to six faculty and/or Admissions staff members to have read an application before a final decision is made by our Director of Admissions. We release decisions as soon as they're finalized, but the process always takes two or three weeks and could take a month or longer if a record needs to be reviewed for our CGAS (Prep School) Program after it has initially been reviewed for direct appointment. Congratulations to those receiving appointments and I would encourage anyone who did not to contact their Admissions Officer in April/May for guidance on reapplying to the Class of 2023 should they remain interested in attending the Coast Guard Academy.

These Early Action statistics have been approved for release and we're looking forward to bringing in another great class!

Average SAT Scores: 675 ERW 710 M 6 W (from Essay)
Average HS Rank: 13% (includes reported and calculated HSRs)
Average GPA: 3.83 (unweighted GPAs converted to a 4.00 scale)
Average PFE Score: 222

43 U.S. states plus the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico are represented in addition to U.S. citizens living in Ecuador and Jordan
 
Thank you for this info. Can you give information of how many have been offered waitlist to the Scholars program?

Thank you for the admission stats. Can you elaborate on how many CGAS waitlist offers were extended and how many CGAS appointments are ultimately given between EA, RA and off the waitlist.

Approximately 100 CGAS appointments are normally tendered over the course of the entire selection process.
 
Again I thank you for giving us a look at the numbers. Selecting from a large group of amazing young men and women must be very difficult. To all who have succeeded in earning and appointment, Bravo Zulu. To those on one of the respective wait lists, I wish you the best of luck and continue to improve your standing, anything can happen!

Question: What happens if you were placed on the wait list but accept an appointment to another service academy due to needing to accept before May 1. The letter notes that it is unlikely a wait listed individual would be notified prior to May 1. CGA is top choice.
 
How many from VA were accepted EA? I’ve read Northern VA applicants were some of the most competitive.

33 appointments were offered to wait list applicants last year, but some of them may have been Regular Admission applicants.

I'm sure the service academy that you're accepting the appointment to would appreciate knowing that you're still active on our wait list and may decline later if offered an appointment to CGA, but that really also applies to any civilian college that you're accepting an offer from. Every year applicants to each service academy accept their appointments by May 1st, but end up declining later for a number of reasons and that's why we maintain a wait list. The earlier you notify the service academy that you've changed your mind and will not be reporting, the more time we have to identify a deserving alternate to attend instead; however, that becomes very challenging/impossible to do (at least for CGA) after June 1st. None of us want someone to attend our service academy for the wrong reason and I think either "they offered me an appointment first" or "I needed to make a decision by May 1st" are the wrong reason.

Virginia is always one of our best-performing (based on the total number of appointments offered) states and approximately 20 Early Action applicants, I'm not sure what part of the state they were from, have been tendered appointments to the Class of 2022 so far.
