Just a question that I want to see if anyone has had experience with. DS will be headed to ERAU in the fall for Aerospace Engineering program. He just received the Type 7 AFROTC scholarship and I know we can convert this to a Type 2 3yr because it is a private school. Before receiving this scholarship he was given a Presidential scholarship from the school for $15,500 per year then I also read on their website they will start at $15,000 for the first year for the students who get the Type 7 and do the conversion to help cover costs for the freshman year. Question is, will they give the $15,000 and the $15,500 for the presidential scholarship? We definitely will be in touch with Financial Aid and the AFROTC unit next week but didn’t know if anyone had any guidance or same experience. Thanks in advance for any insight!

Please let me know if you hear differently but when my ds contacted ERAU with the same question they said no, they basically take away his presidential :-/ They have another scholarship but to go with the AFROTC but it’s no where near the same amount.

Thank you so much! I was kind of thinking that was too good to be true lol...I will definitely reach out if he hears anything different. Are you all in Florida by chance? If so bright futures will help a bit with private schools too. It is $211 a credit hour they’ll give. Not a ton but a little help towards the goal is so helpful.

We’re not ( I wish ) He has some of my husbands GI Bill but that’s it :( Embry was my sons “dream” school but he realized a few things while waiting for the scholarship results to come out
1. No college is worth the debt when there’s other great schools that would be pretty much free
2. He didn’t like the smaller small feel after touring bigger schools
3.he’s a country boy at heart so being around the city and traffic turned him off
Very curious to see if Embry tells you something else! It’s a great school!

I don’t know if the Daytona campus is different, but we were at the Prescott campus a few weeks ago, and they told us that we could use the Presidential Scholarship in conjunction with the AFROTC scholarship.

I dug up the email they sent me, but maybe this just pertains to the first year ?
Maybe they’d combine it for subsequent years ?

Thank you for contacting the Financial aid department. The Air Force ROTC scholarship (Type 7 converted) offers a guaranteed minimum of $16,000 in Embry-Riddle awards for year 1 which includes the institutional award (Presidential Scholarship). He will not receive two payments of $16,000.

Gotcha. So possibly after year one when the AFROTC scholarship kicks in they will give both. Thanks for sending that, super helpful. We’ll see what kind of info comes out this week.
