Embry Riddle Aeronautical University Vs. CSU ROTC

Thank you everyone for your responses! I have decided to choose CSU over ERAU. There are many reasons for this, but it is mostly due to their ROTC program being number 1 in the fifth battalion, and the really good experience I had visiting the CSU campus. I also just got an email from the CSU ROTC program congratulting me on my scholarship, so I am pretty stoked. Thank you everyone for your help!

Good luck Darien. Sounds like you made the right choice for you, which is what it's all about.

Congratulations, Darien. My son currently in the Douglas County School district has both CSU and ERAU on his list of schools for their ROTC program. He's only a freshman but his goal is either of these colleges or an appointment to USAFA. Yes, he realizes Colorado is a competitive state but at least he has plan B and C.

Does he know of the CSU ROTC's programs accomplishments? That was the decision maker for me. They are listed as the top ROTC program in the 5th Battalion, which is around 8 states all together I believe. 85% of their cadets also comission as active duty, compared to the 49% national average. Couple that with CSU's great academics and campus, it became an easy decision for me. However, you cant really go wrong either way.

I am currently an as100 at Embry Riddle in Prescott, you can pm me for specifics.

Darien: My son is looking at applying for AFROTC, if he is unable to secure an appointment to the USAFA. But either way with our without a scholorship, CSU is where he wants to go for their engineering program.

Seriously, I thought you were kidding about not ever heard of Colorado State University. My apologies if I was not correct.
It's not a super well known school nationally, i've never heard of it, though it's pretty safe to say every state as a Blank State University. You must be from that general northwest region b/c ive heard nothing about it from the south. I'd say ERAU, even with it's exorbitant tuition and fees and ok engineering program, is generally more well known. CU Boulder is also probably more well known outside of Colorado, that's the only CO school ive heard mentioned besides the AFA.

Of course, my previous involvement in biotech gives me some bias. CSU is a top Veterinary School.

My son is in his junior year at ERAU in AROTC. To but it bluntly...Riddle will kick your ass..it is extremely challenging. Between classes and ROTC you will not have much time for fun in the sun. It is not your average college experience. That being said. ..I wouldn't want him anywhere else. He has the top professors in his field and he is being fully prepared for his field of study. The ROTC program is top notch and does more than most I have seen with great opportunities. The students tend to be the brainy type while my son is def the jock good old boy type he managed to get a close knit group of other ROTC guys. Just a side note.. The ratio of guys to girls on the campus is about 8-2

Now this is an important piece of information...
