Hello and thank you for taking the time to read my post.
I was recently Disqualified from the United States Air Force after completing Basic Military Training. Around the 4th Week of Training I had pain in my testicles and I was worried that I might have had a hernia or was in the process of getting one. I got it checked out and, long story short, after receiving an ultrasound I was diagnosed with Bi-lateral Varicocele veins (Varicose veins, varicocele meaning in the testicles). I was allowed to finish BMT then I was send to Medical Hold (that place is horrible, anyone who has been there knows) where I met with a doctor again who said that it was a disqualifying condition and that I can request a waiver so naturally I did. My waiver was approved because my condition wasn't very problematic/symptomatic at the time but it continued to give me pain and I didn't think it was a good idea to go through the Combat Control Selection Course with broken testicles. I ultimately chose separation for a few reasons. One of which was the opportunity to do AFROTC. I am getting surgery to have it removed and I am fairly confident that they will approve a waiver for service after seeing that the problem has been fixed, especially because they initially approved my waiver to stay enlisted after telling them that it was not symptomatic. Now here's my question.. when I enroll into ROTC this fall semester, how do I go about getting cleared through DoDMERB? Do I need to wait until some sort of commitment option is presented (Junior year or a scholarship) to go or can I get a waiver sent in before that even happens? Do you think that a waiver has a good chance of being approved for me because of it initially being approved and the condition being a minor DQing condition (when I say minor I mean that it isn't such a disabling condition unlike a torn ACL, or broken vertebrae.. something along those lines)? I look forward to hearing answers as I really want to serve. Thank you again for reading.
