Is there an existing route for midshipmen to enter the Navy EOD/diving school pipeline upon graduation?

I may be wrong but I believe EOD has an officer billet but dive is enlisted billet. Check with a recruiter

New Navy EOD warfare community officers attend Navy Dive School as part as their EOD pipeline training.

Qualified Navy Divers, both officer and enlisted, can be found in several Navy professional communities.

The USNA brief below, while dating from several years ago, is still relatively accurate on Navy divers, officer and enlisted, across several communities.

USMMA midshipmen will learn about various officer warfare communities during naval science classes.

I will defer to current midshipmen/recent grads to address going EOD out of USMMA and how the physical screeners get done.

To go the EOD route, your second class year you need to apply to their "summer cruise". If accepted you will attend for I believe two weeks during the summer going from 2nd class year to 1st class year.

Would this two weeks replace the traditional summer cruise?

EOD summer cruise is one month long. SOAS (Seal Officer Assessment and Selection) is two weeks. You apply for both during the winter of your junior (2/C) year, submitting an application containing the following (roughly, it can change from year to year):

- Cover letter
- PST scores (you can get the averages from the OCM page, but sub 700 is good)
- Personal statement
- Resume
- Photograph
- Letters of recommendation
- Transcript
- Some medical forms (I believe you have to get a physical done).

Are you currently a MIDN at USMMA? If so, reach out to your staff/the EOD OCM for more guidance. If you're an applicant/potential applicant, why USMMA? No doubt it's a great institution, but it's no secret that for SEAL/Navy EOD, by far the best place to be is the Naval Academy. More slots, active duty NSW/NSO on the yard, etc. There's some NROTC programs that have SEALs or EOD officers (either as staff or close by), but it's not very common. OCS is another route, I know they were seeking applicants in 2020, I'm not sure about now.

One data point: Of my 3 KP DS's, one entered the Navy CEC after graduating in '11. In the CEC, he was with the SeaBees in the US, Africa, and Asia. After several years, the Navy offered to pay for him to get a MS in ocean studies, and then sent him to the Navy Dive School in Panama City, to go through its four month program. When graduated, he was certified as a Diving Officer (fyi, about six years after KP). From there, the Navy posted him to one of its dive "lockers" where he commanded divers. He did not plan this route or destination, but he has certainly enjoyed the ride.

Very interesting as we are researching the CEC collegiate program as another option for my DS who’s applying to USNA & NROTC. My uncle was a reservist after Vietnam in the SeaBees 🐝- really interesting program...

Ask around, but I understood that excellent KP grades were a must to be considered for the relatively small Navy CEC community. But the hard work involved to get there was worth it.

Thanks! He’ll be working w/ a Navy Officer Recruiter to confirm all of the details for this program and NUPOC 😊.

Did you find the “right” officer recruiter?
He did! Easy, peasy for us since he’s in IL. He’ll be contacting the recruiter from GL. Our conference/district *finally* gave the OK for a very limited HS basketball season (< 6 weeks 😢) so he’s been focused on that recently- the chance to be a kid one last time & have some fun as a senior.... he has a task list that I have to let him drive 😉.....
