Does anyone know if West Point will take the writing portion of the SAT and the scores from the ACT?

My DS has everything submitted except CFA and this. He submitted his highest score on the ACT earlier this year but then found out he needed the writing portion for USMA. We have had 3 test dates cancelled with ACT. As of this writing I can no longer get into ACT’s website as they are completely broken. Can’t contact anyone and no one has returned an email in over 10 days. The SAT with writing is still a go as of today for the 29th here where we live, but the question remains....will USMA take just the essay portion from this upcoming test? If not, Is there any point in taking it?

Under normal circumstances the answer is no, all scores must be from either the SAT or ACT. No mixing of tests - the ACT scores would be not be considered unless at least one of the ACT tests had a writing score. However, this year is very different and your son should contact his RC for advice and possible exceptions.

As far as taking the upcoming SAT, there is no point in not taking it, unless the RC suggests otherwise. Submit ALL scores and USMA will superscore and select the test which provides the most WCS points.

My DS just found out that his SAT for Aug 29th has been canceled. I am not sure if all centers in my state have canceled it but College Board said that there are no spots for him at the moment. ACT does not even pick up their phones. This year is a mess. Fortunately for my DS, he had taken some attempts during his Sophomore/Junior years and we have decided to submit those scores now just as a hail Mary pass. His current scores are not very competitive (ACT - 31, SAT - 1400) for our District but it is what it is. I don't think USMA has officially stated anything about Test scores unlike some civilian universities that have stated that they would give higher weightage to the high school GPAs.

If you don't mind me asking, what state do you live in?

Jeez, hopefully not Georgia.
Just kidding, you shouldn't be worried. Regardless of the state, schools opt to cancel SAT testing on a case-by-case basis. No state has entirely closed testing, and I'm sure you'll be notified if your center closes. If you're feeling antsy, feel free to Ctrl+f that bad boy on this list of closings: https://collegereadiness.collegeboard.org/sat/register/test-center-closings
I'm glad you posted this here because I just found out mine is canceled...I don't have any scores yet!
