Hello,

Is there anyone living overseas who can share about their (or their children's) experience in applying to ROTC? I'm wondering, in particular, where one can get the physical tests (PFA) done. We live in Seoul and my son who is a senior is in the process of applying to the NROTC and AFROTC scholarships.

Looking at the application there are many options for who can administer the test for NROTC. Living in Seoul there are lots of military members. Does your DS have a PE teacher or coach or does your family know an active duty Officer or E-7 or above? Doing a quick google search it appeared there is a high school in Seoul that has an NJROTC unit. The instructor can administer it. I know at a minimum in Seoul they have an Army JROTC unit. I would have your DS reach out to that instructor and ask if he or she could provide assistance in finding an active officer or E-7 or above to assist. Most military members I know would jump at an opportunity to help a young man or woman pursue this path and do what they could to assist.

This is true! I’ve got friends who were in similar situations, all they had to do was network and make some calls/send some emails or in the best cases shake some hands (meeting in person) and they had a test administrator within a day or two of reaching out. I’d recommend you let your DS take care of that though, this is a situation he can really benefit from! Good luck! :)

Hi - my son did this from Australia. He was a member of his school cadet program (I think same as JROTC) and had the head of that (who was ex-military) and the school PE teacher help. From memory he just printed off the requirements and they administered the test and signed off. It was quite simple actually. Good luck

Thanks everyone for the feedback. I'll have my son ask around from his former school to see if anyone there can administer the test. There use to be a heavy military population before and there may be remnent members still.
