Eye examination

My daughter had her eye examination by the DODMER-assigned eye doctor in September. The result showed my daughter’s eye visual cannot be corrected to 20/20, which the Academies require. DODMER asked us for AMI. It was a surprising result that we cannot believe. She had an annual eye examination every year, and it was normal; the vision can always be corrected to 20/20. Her most recent eye examination was in May 2023. Therefore, we made an appointment with an ophthalmology specialist to examine my daughter’s eyes after we received the abnormal result from DODMER assigned eye examination. It confirmed that my daughter’s eyes are normal. There is no problem; the visual for both eyes can be corrected to 20/20. We submitted the ophthalmologist’s letter and the entire examination report for reconsideration or a waiver. One month later, on her account, it still shows the academies are “waiting for receipt of remedial.” I cannot understand and do not know what we should do. If my daughter’s eyes are normal and meet the requirement that “the visual can be corrected to 20/20”, how can we do any “remedial”? Thanks in advance for your suggestions and help.

Has your daughter contacted her assigned DoDMERB technician to confirm receipt of herAMI?

She can go to the DoDMERB website and work her way through the left-side menu - lots of good info - to Contacts. No login is required.

Good luck! This time of year, thousands of bits of data from thousands of candidates are flowing to DoDMERB, which serves multiple commissioning programs, such as service academies and ROTC. Not an excuse, but context.

... suggestion (s) only.

If this is my kid, act with extreme urgency. I'll have him contact the DODMERB technician listed in the AMI via email message (and / or phone). Wait 48 hours for a response. If no answer/response, Goggle search DODMERB Headquarters --> AF Academy. List the Assistant Chief and technician names. Write a formal memorandum (letter) to both Assistant Chief and technician. Send Priority Mail so you can track it. So send two separate letters initially. If no answer in two weeks, then send a second set of letters. {Prepare 4 copies from the onset}.

I would suggest she email her assigned DoDMERB technician to inquire. She can state she already submitted the AMI, but she is attaching it again for reference. Remember this is a long weekend for Federal workers so no one will likely see it until next week. Might be wise to do this sometime on Monday so it’s not at the bottom of the pile.

I have a question about the Dodmerb eye examination.
DS just recently found out he probably needs glasses (from an eye chart) as his eyes are about 20/30 individually and 20/20 together.
He will be scheduling his Dodmerb eye examination soon. Should he get glasses before his Dodmerb eye appointment, or can they give him a prescription at that appointment? Thanks for the input!
