I'm a rising junior in high school and I found out about the service academies towards the end of my freshman year. I knew I wanted to go to the Air Force Academy since the summer of that year and have been working towards the application since sophomore year. I thought that I had most of the requirements down until I remembered about my eyesight. The website says "Current refractive error (hyperopia, myopia, astigmatism) in excess of -8.00 or +8.00 diopters spherical equivalent or astigmatism in excess of 3.00 diopters". My latest glasses prescription reads sphere: -4.25 for right, -5.00 for left, and cylinder: -1.25 right, - 0.50 left. I felt my vision met the " between -8.00 and +8.00" diopters but am still a bit unsure about what the 3.00 means. Can anyone give me any insight if my vision would disqualify me from being able to apply to the academy?
