I was in Vermont at a farm with family for the 4th. On the 4th, several F22s (I think) flew overhead. Are all fighter jets in the air affiliated with the air force? And where do they do flyovers on the 4th? At a college, base, etc?

Happy 4th everyone, and thank you to all the vets, active duty servicemen and women, cadets, and family.

The only picture I got is below :)

It looks like it is the F-35As from the 158th Fighter Wing of the Vermont Air National Guard out of Burlington Air National Guard Base. There are a few ANG FWs that fly the F-35A. The 18th FW of the Alabama ANG also flies them.

The Air Force, Navy, and Marine Corps all fly different flavors of fighter jets. The branch you'll see is mostly based on where you live.

One of my DSs went to Saint Michael's College in Colchester & now lives in nearby Winooski - both just outside of Burlington. He says everyone noticed the introduction of F-35s about 8 years ago due to their incredible noise.

The 115th FW of the Wisconsin ANG started converting to the F-35 a few months ago, and you can absolutely tell without looking whether it‘s an F-16 or an F-35 taking off just by the volume.
