Falcon Scholar Chances of Getting a Nomination. Can a Falcon Scholar Not Get a Nomination?

My daughter is a Falcon Scholar and is interested in the USAFA. I am aware that FS is referred to as a “golden ticket” to the academies. However, the competitiveness of acquiring a nomination from all sources worries me. Despite of being a FS, can she be denied of a nomination? What if she didn’t get a nomination from our congressman, senators and VP, is her hopes of getting an appointment to the USAFA no longer possible? What are the chances of a Falcon Scholar getting a nomination the 2nd time around?

All that your daughter can do is apply to all available nomination sources. The nomination committees are aware of the process and whether that affects their decision on awarding nominations to a FS is up to them. Your daughter will have resources at their chosen prep school that will counsel them on nomination processes. That being said, it is likely that your daughter will be awarded a nomination of some kind since they have already identified her as a desired candidate by designating her a Falcon Scholar. It’s not something that you yourself can control, so worrying won’t do much good.

Last year our DD was a FS. She attended NWP. I believe every FS received a nomination and appointment. I am not a 100% certain because DD did not follow everyone in the class on social media and not something you ask. In addition to the FS many self preppers received nominations in some of the most competitive districts in the country and received appointments. The staff for MOC are aware of the Falcon Scholars. Remember your DD only has to get one of the 10 offers of appointment. Keep in mind the Falcon Foundation is investing in your DD on behalf of USAFA. They are vested in your DD. There are no certainties in life, but odds of getting a nomination and appointment are extremally good. This past year in our district 2 FS received noms and appointments to USAFA along with 2 other directs.
