About a month ago my FFR told me that I have been submitted for an LOA. He said I should have received it in a week or 2. 4 weeks past and nothing. ANy FFR have any insight on this? He said on his portal it said I was submitted for an LOA. Does that mean I have one? If so, what is taking so long? I want to send it to my Congressmen.

The good news is your are very competitive for an appointment. Bad news is that 'submission' does not mean 'approval' so you may or may not receive an LOA. Only USMA Admissions knows. I recommend focusing on things you can control by ensuring you are well prepared for your nomination interviews and other remaining application requirements. Also, you likely recognize that the vast majority of cadets at USMA today never received an LOA prior to their appointments. Two of my current students have an LOA to USMA -- others do not, but I feel quite confident that all of them will receive an appointment. I bet you will, too. Good luck!

How does the process of submission and approval work?

This happened to my son last year.

In June 2023, he was encouraged by West Point admission to reach out his FFR for possible LOA. He did.

In July 2023 his FFR sent him an email congratulating him on getting an LOA from West Point. However the LOA did not show up on his portal. He was busy with his other applications (NROTC colleges, USNA) and did not bother to clarify.

In September 2023, he received an email from West Point admission that his LOA would be expired on October 15, 2023 if he did not complete his CFA. Even more confused !

In early October 2023 he went to an army base in Virginia for CFA. Over there, he was told again another FFR, he had an LOA. He asked them to clarify the confusion ---the fact he had never seen his LOA.

On Oct 15, 2023 (his CFA was set to expired), while working at a swimming pool, he got a call from West Point admission-- apologizing for the mistake regarding his LOA (never shown up on his portal), and would make an extension for two months (set to expired on Dec 15, 2023)

On Dec 2, 2023 he received his nomination, but he was just one ft away BB throw away from passing CFA !

On Dec 9, 2023, his 5th trip to the army base for his CFA, he finally passed his CFA -- just 4 days before his LOA deadline.

To OP.

Please contact your FFR --- if you have an LOA -- he/she should know. Because every FFR (local or in the army base) knew my son had LOA-- they do have access to cadet candidate application profiles -- such as SAT scores.

Just to clarify,

FFR does not make decision on LOA, the admission does.
FFR interview is required for an LOA and usually an LOA is shown up on the portal (a pdf file) if granted, and FFRs would know the candidates status of LOA.
