First wave of appointments

They have known I needed a waiver for about 3 weeks now. I do not know why I would get an LOA now. From what I have heard, they review the waiver more thoroughly once a candidate gets an LOA. This does not really make sense to me, though, because I thought they already waited to see if the candidate was competitive before REQUESTING an LOA. Idk, I will just have to standby for further information. Definitely encouraging, though because I have been a little worried about the whole waiver thing so it gets my mind off of it.
Coming from a dad's opinion ... LOAs are "I love you" letters so you dont skip town with Plan B in hand. They want you to know that there is no decisions to wrangle over, etc. You are in IF the 1 (or more) yes/no pieces are satisfied.

DS received his LOA in March, waiting on a waiver that was requested months prior. The good news is that you know there is a yes/no that is answered once you get back your waiver decision. You dont have to worry about the "am I competitive enough" part until April or later.

Are portals only updated for appointments during the time (usually Thursday) when the portal is noted as being updated.. Or can they appear anytime during the week?

I believe we have seen batch processing for this.

Not sure but his portal did update yesterday

I was told by my USMA RC that, at least for my region (Northeast), the first wave will start this week and go until late-April. However, I also got correspondence yesterday that the first wave of appointments would be tendered in late February (this was the candidate file qualified correspondence for LOA+3Q), so I’m not too sure. Guess we will have to see.
I got this letter on the 16th, and I just received an appointment today, so it looks like some batches of appointments can still come out before the big wave of appointments my RC said would be in late Feb.

so I'm guessing if nothing is new in our portal today that we shouldn't hope for a call this weekend...

Once the Nomination slate is submitted to the SA when does the SA review that list and offer appointments especially if there is a Principal Nomination?

My son got his principal nom back in the middle of December and he just found out of an appointment 2 days ago. It must take some time for them to go through all the slates. If you are a principal nom and 3Q.. your appointment should be coming. Waiting is really hard

Congrats on your DS appointment. Which SA?

My DS got principal nomination at the beginning of December and receive appointment from USAFA mid December. It seems like it takes about 2 weeks, but that could vary based on how long MOC staffer takes to send nominations to the service academy.

@Mama23 - You should add him to the Appointment list:

Not yet, she told him to expect the update in 48 hours. They apparently tell MOC 2 days before it updates so they can be the ones to give you the good news if they want to.
Hi Mama23, Are you in CA? Our MOC also told DD the same re: the appointment. She is vying for USNA though.

Hi everyone. I read through previous threads that the first wave of nominations happens around mid to late January. Does anyone know if this is the case? Thanks in advance
I received my congressional nomination on Jan. 16 and when I contacted my RC, he told me that the admissions committee had received my file and would give me a decision back in 1-2 weeks.

This comes up every year. The process for USMA is pretty much always the same. Admission finalizes offers on Tuesdays and notifies MOCs. The internal system is updated the same day so FFRs can see the changes. The MOC has a few days to notify candidates if they want. The applicants portal updates over the weekend.

I also see many notes about "getting" nominations in November and December. You MOC telling you that you have received a nomination and that MOC entering it into the system are two different events. The deadline is not until the end of January and many MOCs have not completed it yet.
