Last Fall I posted here looking for fly fishing ideas for my son's overnight visit to USMA, but now that he has accepted his appointment to USNA (Go Navy!), it looks like my visits to the east coast over the next 4 years will be to Annapolis.

I am looking for recommendations on where to fly fish in and around Annapolis for trout or saltwater (plenty of bass fishing back home in TX) - specifically wadeable spots. Hoping that Plebe Parent Weekend comes off in August which we want to extend into our summer vacation trip since the big extended family cruise is cancelled. If not August, we will try to get up there in Fall or whenever possible, and I will try to fish as much I can on these trips to new waters over the next four years.

Thanks!

This is well worth the 2 hour drive north

As much as I love flyfishing for trout, I LOVE flyfishing for striped bass. Of course Marylanders call striped bass rockfish for some strange reason, but that's a whole different discussion... The Chesapeake offers wonderful opportunities.

The mention of PA reminded me of the lovely areas in Western MD/WV, a straight west drive on I-70 from Baltimore, 2 hours plus or minus. Western PA, western MD, WV, Western VA/Shenandoah Valley all back up to Appalachians and foothills.

If you add on some vacation time to Annapolis visits, I highly recommend the Savage River Lodge in Frostburg, MD. We go there once a year, get our own A-frame cabin, enjoy the food, take the boxers. You have to love a website that tells you what kind of cars can navigate the road in.

Logging roads and goat trails. Many years ago my brother would vacation along the Savage river in the Frostburg area. He always brought back good hunting and fishing stories. I kick myself for always being too busy to join him.

What do want to catch. Allen Pond does surprising well for large mouths. The Patuxant is packed with channel catfish and has white perch in many areas. The Potomac is alive with largemouths and snakeheads. Croaker have been moving into the bay. Central MD has a number of good trout streams.

Thank you. Looking for wade fishing opportunities - for trout or saltwater.
