Hello,

I have recently been presented the idea of having my food allergies desensitized. Would the Air Force provide a medical waiver for an anaphylaxic allergy to Cashews, and Walnuts that has been desenitized?

Thank You

If you can prove (most likely through an allergist supervised nut challenge where you ingest several increasing doses of the nuts in question.) that you no longer have the allergy, the AF has issued waivers in that circumstance in the past . . . but any reaction in the test means no waiver from teh AF

Army is more reasonable and I believe the Navy can be as well . . .

Thank You for the response, I was not sure if being going through desensitizion made a difference.

To be clear, I don’t think they care if you’ve been through desensitization or not.

I think they only care if you can prove to their satisfaction that you no longer have the allergy.

Then they give you a waiver for a condition you do not have . . .

Would it be possible to get a waiver if I enlisted?

I don’t think that helps with the AF in this case.

For the AF our experience is you basically have to prove you no longer have the allergy.

Army and Navy seem to be more reasonable taking into account the severity of your reaction.
