My son is currently in his freshman year, enrolled as a non scholarship cadet. He is an aerospace engineering major (currently 3.5 gpa) and he has been awarded the Air Force fitness award for the current semester. I know its a very broad question, but would anyone have an idea what his chances will be at securing a 3.5 year scholarship?

I will start off by saying I am NOT an Air Force ROTC PMS nor did I serve in the Air Force in any capacity. That said, it would appear your son has picked a major which is highly desired by the Air Force and also has a very good GPA. I would say if he continues doing well in academics and on the military side of the AFROTC program that he has an excellent chance of receiving an AFROTC scholarship. Follow this link for more detailed information around selection criteria for current college students: https://www.afrotc.com/scholarships/college/types/

His GPA is competitive. Do note that Spring ICSP is significantly more competitive due to freshmen + sophomores in the pool. If your son's college is HSI / HBCU, there'll be a higher chance if he's nominated for that instead.
