From ROTC to an Academy

We were told that if DS goes to an academy he will be released from ROTC. Does anyone know when this will happen? Will he only formally exit ROTC when he reports in to West Point in June? Or at some time in-between? Has anyone on the forum ever gone from ROTC to an academy and been in this situation? Thanks in advance for your counsel.
