I’m in Army ROTC and will commission in the Guard. I want to branch quartermaster and become a logistics officer. I was wondering if logistics officers are ever given TS clearances? I like logistics but would also appreciate the clearance if I could get one. Thank you

(Also, if anyone knows the chances for a TS as an armor or field artillery officer too, then please let me know. Also considering those)

TS is a needs based clearance, it really has nothing to do with your AOC.
To further this very correct comment, there are specific jobs/billets (NOT MOS's/Designators) that will generally require the incumbent to hold a TS Clearance because at some point they MIGHT need to access TS material. Since the lag time to actually GET the clearance is so long, people who might need it will get the clearance "just in case" and then never actually see TS material.
FWIW, I held a TS clearance for well over 20 yrs but did not see any TS material at all for at least the first 10 of them.

Is it fair to ask if you are thinking a TS clearance will enhance your civilian job prospects? It definitely will.

Best of luck!

Does one who is in a branch which doesn’t traditionally grant TS (MI, cyber) have the opportunity to request being in a position where they’d need it? Or is it a matter of assignment with no say, generally

I really think you're asking the wrong question here. I wouldn't just be seeking out an AOC that typically grants a TS clearance. I would have to guess that MI might have a higher probability over other AOCs, given the work they do. However, you can be in many different billets in any AOC that might need a TS. Truthfully, you should be seeking an AOC that you will enjoy/find fulfilling. A clearance is just a clearance. Some investigators might find it a little strange to have someone asking around to be placed in a position solely for the purpose of getting a TS clearance.

Not sure where you got the idea that MI and Cyber officers do not get TS clearances but you just MIGHT want to recheck your data source.

Note: my comment is solely based on USN practices/experience but I'm pretty confident that the organizations are similar in this regard.

I can't speak for other services however, in "Mother Blue" MI officers are very often holding a TS+ clearance. I haven't worked with cyber folks so I can't speak to them specifically, however...if they're the folks that worked on my computers in the CAOC...they had to have TS and then some...

I held TS+ for much of my career...it can be a pain in the...example: my wife and I like to travel; there were times when we would have to get our vacation destinations pre-approved. And sometimes we were told, "uh, no, you're not going there..."

It depends on your job and what units/programs you work with. Some logistics types will never need one, others may need a TS just to get into their office.

You will automatically get one as an MI officer but I will say that this is an unwise consideration when choosing your branch. As a company grade or even field grade officer, you won't get one unless you are in a specific billet that is coded TS.

Be aware that the TS you get in the military may not be transferrable either. I know for a fact that the FBI will not honor a DoD TS - you have to go thru the investigation/poly all over again.
