Giving Back: 2021 Plebe Q&A

I would love to give back. Fire away with your questions!!

Things that may make me stand out from other Plebes on the forum right now:
- Body Fat testing (for the muscular folks out there), Living in Maryland (senator and congressional interviews), CVW, NASS, Summer STEM, IB/AP validations, and more.

Ask any questions. If I cannot answer it, I will find another plebe or midshipmen who can. Please give me at least a day or two to get to answering your questions.

How do you think you could've prepared better for Plebe Summer? What did you notice in particular that plebes would struggle on?(e.g pushups, running, etc)

Are you missing those steamed Maryland Blue Crabs with Old Bay yet? How about those Thrasher fries, Fisher popcorn, and Dumsers ice cream? On a serious note, how many Marylanders made it to the academy with you and the rest of the 2021's?

Repeating the CFA even after you have submitted it is a great way for you to get in shape. Besides that RUN almost every day and run DISTANCE. Most plebes during the summer will suffer from Shin Splints -- get your shins used to long distance running and lots of mileage in general.

Front leaning rest (the up position of push ups) will become one of your favorite places to be.

I cannot give you an exact number but there is good group of us at the academy. There is a good representation of each state at the academy. At a picnic that was held before Plebe Summer, there was about 20 of us with several not being able to attend.

I fortunately did get an LoA in Early October and received an Appointment in December.

An LoA is not the goal, an appointment is, but I would recommend finishing your application as quick as possible without sacrificing quality. It gives you more wiggle room down the road should you require a waiver or have to do additional tasks for the Academy.

Always had a classmate bring back a pint when stuck in the Hall for weekend duty.

Current Plebe, and I second this. Plebe Summer running absolutely destroyed my shins because I didn't prepare as much as I should have. Shin splints are not something you want to miss training for.

Question for a current Plebe -- Do you know the attrition rate during Plebe Summer? I have seen one of my Classmates say that he heard that there were only 10 DOR's this summer. That seems incredibly low. Can you confirm ?

I am not 100 percent sure but I believe that the number was definitely low this year. I heard somewhere between 10 and 20.

Treason is a very, very strong word. Disagree with his actions a political beliefs, but the guy still has a CIB.
