It seems like there are a lot of similarities between these two foundation schools. Can anyone share differences they noticed after visiting, etc? Also do either of them have a higher ratio of students hoping for certain SAs over others?

If my DS were to go this route, his primary goal would be better time management and study skills, as well as best military prep for SA.

Thank you!

DS is at MMI right now, (self-prep) and today received his appt. to USNA. Their SAP program is on point.
Congratulations to your son!
As of now my son is headed to MMI next year! Can you tell me how much of the USNA application your son had done before entering MMI?

Should he have his recommendations done by this year's teachers or wait until next fall? I know there's still a chance at an appointment this year, but he's been talking about trying to get his ducks in a row for next year. Thank you for any insight!!

Thank you! I believe, without talking with him, he started almost from the beginning. He received letters of rec from his instructors at MMI, in addition to H.S. transcripts etc. If your DS goes to MMI it's all about improving his status. Classes, ACT improvement, (if needed), and extra curriculars. The classes can be tough, but not insurmountable. Have your DS get involved in extra curriculars, but not at the expense of classes. I hope it works out for your DS this year, but MMI is well worth it. Good luck for you guys, we know the roller coaster of emotions. Hope this helps.

Thank you for all of the feedback! MMI seems like a great option! I wasn't sure if it was primarily Army / Air Force focused, this is reassuring! And congrats ARMARINE03 and franknd and to your sons!
All five service academies send sponsored students to MMI, which was a plus IMO when we were considering prep schools. Also, numerically, I believe the Coast Guard Academy actually has the most sponsored students at MMI.

You're very welcome. His plan B fell through and he immediately submitted his application for MMI, plan C. From top to bottom, from the business office, to the OIC's, they will provide the environment to get tuned up. Good folks all the way around. Work hard and the options will follow.

This is great information! Thank you so much. My son was recruited for Track & Field, so he will have that involvement set when he gets there. I have shared the info with my son and he's very grateful. He is looking forward to getting involved with as much as possible while maintaining good grades. Thank you again!

Good luck to you guys. Let the process work. We were at the end of April last year when we turned to plan C. MMI, they were VERY gracious and helpful.

I can't recommend MMI enough! They are VERY GOOD at what they do. Your son will need to work incredibly hard, but if so, he will have a very real big advantage. The recommendations from MMI carry weight for sure.
My son signed up for 3 extra curriculars, and made the Swamp Fox team. After failing to gain an appointment for 2 years, MMI made the difference. As a self-prep he received Appointments to all 3 SA's he applied to, out of our very competitive NTX district. (Including Senator Cruz appointment to USAFA).
He's currently doing very well at USMA, and has reported that he's glad it took the third year applying out of MMI, as he was absolutely totally prepared. Best part is that he started on RDAY at WP with 14 other MMI friends. And that has turned out to be a very beneficial support system.
While we never visited GMC, my Son decided on MMI because it is entirely Corps of Cadets on campus. [GMC, I believe, has both regular students and Cadets. (At least this was my understanding)]. I was in favor of his decision after speaking with Colonel Bowen at MMI. Who was so incredibly knowledgeable about our particular congressional district already, that it was like he was reading my mind, b4 I could even tell him. "Experienced" would be an understatement obviously.
MMI offers a campus setting without a lot of distractions, which was fine with us.
Overall, they delivered big time for us, doing everything they promised and more!
Best decision we've ever made!
Feel free to PM me for any questions/info I might be able to provide. But, I highly recommend that you reach out to Colonel Bowen directly.
He's very open to discussing your particular situation, and will offer spot on guidance, before, during and after your time at MMI. His contact info is on the MMI web page.

We have had a great experience with GMC. GMC was recommended to my son after he did not receive an appointment to the USCGA last year. We liked that it was closer to home, compared to MMI, and Milledgeville is a little bit of a bigger town. They do have non corp of cadet students but my son said they don’t really see them. They are in their cohorts with other SA prep students for classes, PT, etc.
The staff/faculty there have been extremely helpful and knowledgeable. He received a room and board scholarship, which made it very affordable. There have been a handful of self prep students who have received their appointments to various academies. So far 4 Coast Guard self preps have received an appointment. I truly believe that GMC gave him all the tools that he needed to receive an appointment. If anyone has any questions, feel free to message me.
