Got the good news this morning!

Congratulations!

These posts of portal changes always cause me to tear up a bit. Be kind to that mother in the background crying. That was me a year ago. I had never been so proud and terrified at the same time in my life.

Although the last eight months at KP has been a roller coaster of an experience for my DS, he is happy, healthy and looking forward to the years ahead.

Good luck and don’t forget to check into that Facebook 2018 parent page for support and information.

Thanks bearhunter...that waiver process was quite an ordeal.

congrats!!!!

CONGRATS Kneedeep and everyone who just got "good news"! :thumb:

There is also an "everyone" facebook page (not just limited to incoming families). Make SURE parents join that one too- it has parents from EVERY year and is a wealth of info from parents of all years.
The link to that one is; https://www.facebook.com/groups/203310189716742/

DS received the BFE today, actually its a FEDEX envelope with the appointment letter, signed by Capt Johnson, in a nice folder. DS's status changed to Principal on Tuesday, so the appointment letter came in 2 days.

Hello, All -

I guess I need to change my screen name to DEFINITEMidMom because DS is now a Principal, too! He is SUPER excited and so are we parents. As far as how he found out, he got a phone call from our MOC, and got a letter in the mail about an hour later.

We did not get our FedEx envelope yet but I'm sure it's coming soon!

We are in Missouri, by the way - most anxious to get in contact with other parents. Dying to know how many kids from this state are at Kings Point, much less from St. Louis!

All parents/appointees congratulations! Be proud, celebrate and honor yourselves and all those you know were part of the process of getting you here.

"On holds", keep the faith. Hold onto all you've learned throughout this process of applying. With the Academy shutdown back in the fall, the selection process is about 2 wks behind. If KP is where you want to be and your number is not called this year REAPPLY. Here in WI, we've had applicants who have not made it one year, but made it the next. We are not the only state. Use this year productively in the academic way. Keep your dream alive!

The Academy application process is arduous and long to get through. Good practice for the rest of the four years (for both appointees and parents.)

I say that, b/c you just need to continue for the next four years, one day at a time (or half day as I've read!), implementing the same attitudes and thoughtful processes that have gotten you this far. Yes, take a breather, acknowledge all you've accomplished, celebrate with all who've helped get you to this point, but with fortitude, stay focused the rest of your HS career. Keep your nose clean, don't speed, don't do drugs, don't get in trouble with the law, don't break a leg!

And, utilize this service academy forum as my hubby and I have in the past 5 years. You will be very glad you did!

plug: For those who are from Wisconsin, we have a facebook page! https://www.facebook.com/groups/86954993423/

Plug: there should be a USMMA Club from your state. If you don't have contact information for your state, try this website. Be advised, the information might have changed.

Welcome to the KP Family!! Truly you and your sons and daughters will have life long friends from this closely knit group of people.....

I haven' t been on the Forum all weekend, DS is still on the dreaded Hold. Seriously thinking of Plan B and putting down our deposit. I wish for DS, he could hear any reply so he can make plans. Anyone heard back from WI?

You might be a little premature in acting on your Plan B.. I could be mistaken, but I think the majority of appointments go out in March and April and I know that they can go out as late as June. That happened in 2001 with my son when he received his appointment on 5 June.. So if I were you, I'd at least wait a few more weeks...
