Governor calls for close of N.J. bombing range

Gov. Jon S. Corzine on Tuesday called for closing the bombing range believed to have sparked last week’s massive forest fire in the Pinelands.

“I will be strongly in favor of its closing,” Corzine said....

Smoke from a forest fire that National Guard officials believe was started when a flare dropped from an F-16 jet on a training maneuver ignited the tinder-dry Pinelands, has strained the limits of neighborliness for many people living near the range.
