Hello. I am currently applying to USNA. I didn't have a great gpa in high school. Ended with around a 2.7-2.8. I made huge improvements from my sophomore to senior years of high school. I was wondering, if I get an excellent score on the ACT/SAT, will that improve my chances of getting in?
I was also a 4 lettered varsity player, and I was team captain senior year. I volunteered at nursing homes for my senior class project, and I have had siblings attend the academy.

Won't know unless you apply!

There are more parts to the "whole candidate" score than just GPA. And, there are also other alternative paths that can lead to the Academy that can be offered if they think you are a good option for the future (NAPS and the Foundation program). These are 1-year programs that lead to an appointment upon successful completion and meeting other criteria (getting a nomination, passing medical, etc.).

No one can guess what will happen. No way to even try and guess.

Obviously if you knock it out of the park with standardized testing, that’s a good thing! Anything you do to improve your package is a good thing.

Don't worry about your past. Focus on the present and future. Also, keep in mind, an application to a SA opens the door for a prep offer…which is a golden ticket to the next class (assuming your a student who passes).

Give it your all. It’s all you can do. Plenty of people get in with odd looking resumes. Don’t be dissuade by the resumes you see here, or elsewhere. You do you!!

Good luck on your application journey!

Thank you so much! Do you recommend a time when I should reach out to my BGO? I'm not quite sure when I should.

A son of one of my USNA classmates dropped out of high school and enlisted in the USMC. After some time in the Corps and some typical Marine tough love and he ended up at the Naval Academy Prep School and then USNA. Ended up as Brigade Commander and a Rhodes Scholar.

As a BGO, I don't need my candidates to reach out to me as I'm tracking their applications. If you do want to be proactive and contact the BGO, I recommend having a substantial portion as in over 50% of your application elements submitted and a clear plan for the remainder. Of course, if you have questions about USNA or the process, then ask the BGO when they arise.

Oh ok! Thank you! I wasn't sure if my BGO was tracking mine, but I want to stay on top of it.

I won't say that EVERY BGO stays on top of each candidate's status but from what I've experienced, most do.
Again, get most of your stuff in and if the BGO has not contacted you then you should reach out to them.
