Grades Rat Year

I've got 2 Rats...1 from Taiwan that couldn't go home.. What does one feed 2 Rats? Fridge full, freezer full, pantry full, Deep Freezer more than half full... We're good for at least a week:eek: DH picked them both up yesterday..Had him act like our guest needed to bring the hay home to sleep on:yllol: That reaction was priceless I guess.. Just kidding kiddo:yllol:

Two rats!!?? That's brutal I'd be going to Costco every other day. That is pretty funny. My kid left his room a mess. Hell be cleaning it first!

Just an FYI all grades for DS are on Post View...as anticipated..summer school here we come.

Wow that is really fast on the grades! Don't worry it will get easier. This is a huge " learning experience".

First thing my Rat will be tasked with is to get the Christmas tree out of the basement and put it up...and I am sure to find some manual labor around, got to keep him in shape for his return to the I :shake:

Wow, that was quick! I wouldn't worry too much or let it get your Rat down--the outside the classroom distractions will settle down after Breakout and that will help I would think.

He isn't down... He is MAD (at himself).. Nevertheless we have a decent plan in order. His ECE Prof took an hour of his time and talked everything through with him yesterday or the day before which really helped him. I think he is in shock that we aren't losing our minds over it. If this was anycollege USA I might, but I he is doing well otherwise and I know it certainly isn't because he's been drinking and skipping classes.

DS is home and we are all watching Elf for the 500th time. Merry Christmas to all the 2012+3 Rats and Rat families!

My Son's rat year was tough, he never had a C in his entire high school. He left his rat year with a 2.3 gpa and was happy with it. It is different. On the other hand, his friend who was a 2.8 gpa in high school earned Ack Stars his seconnd semester. Got to figure it out for themselves. This semester he pulled a 3.0

Thanks for sharing the stories of encouragement. Everyone have a great Christmas with their Rats, Cadets and even the Pre-Strains.

I have my grandsons living with us this Christmas too.. They are getting a 7 foot Air Hockey table for Christmas. We've stashed it in the "Rats nest" while he was gone...the box weighs 218 lbs and (Some assembly required) is right down my Rats alley...

If they aren't successful in assembly my Rat will probably change majors:shake:

And you are welcome anytime Easter.

Wanted to add something for all that are going to be Rats next year or parents of prospective students. DH was hanging out in front of Old Barracks waiting to pick up our Rats for break. He is a people watcher and he observed as DS and his BR were leaving all the hugs, handshakes and words of encouragement to "come back" etc given and received between the students. They have a unique bond that few can understand. I see it in my son and I almost envy it. He does have a family there that he really cares about. They are loyal to each other even though they don't like everything about each other, and it is really cool to see that. What they lack in material things and possessions they make up for in intangibles.

Rats went on a 2 mile run in the rain and then did some PT this morning:shake: It was at 11 am rather than 6 am though. A 3 week lay off of PT combined with chocolate chip cookies and pumpkin pie would be really really bad to quote a Rat:biggrin:

I hope you have a great time with your DS! I look forward to seeing my DS develop the same thing with his BRs next year. :thumb:

My merriest wishes to all! My cadet is home, recovering - even as a 2nd class (junior) he still recovers the first 24-48 hours! Real food, quick greetings, private, long shower and his little bed continue to be at the top of the list!
Thank goodness this break is long enough to allow all cadets to relax, recharge, and get ready for the next semester - that part is NOt any different than RAT year. The academics do continue to push, stretch them - every year there seems to be another milestone to conquer! My cadet, as focused as he is, was exhausted by thanksgiving - the RING buildup is huge and can, did for my cadet - cause some distraction but somehow they pull it out - more lessons learned. The act of juggling academics, cadet life and duties, then their personal life, are real - different- from what they face as RATS - just the next step. As parents we know it's excellent preparation for their real life - there is no finer place than VMI to be. Those AC stars continue to be elusive, but the journey and effort, invaluable. Life lessons...
So from just a mom watching the journey, VMI continues to truely be a place one can be proud of, it is special indeed.
For RAT parents - they have journeyed far, will appreciate home, but the time will pass so quickly, as they prepare to return remember- breakout is within reach. Merry Christmas, warmest wishes -larrys mom

Question for Sprog:

What is the VMI criteria for being a Distinguished Graduate?

Thanks,
Murf

My Rats' GPA ended up at 2.87---he is fairly bummed. His alum 'mentor' asked him what he was aiming for GPA wise next semester-Rat said 3.30, alum replied back no, 3.5 :yllol:
Hopefully the 2.8 won't count against him for the on campus AROTC scholarship opportunities

I know DS is feeling like "better luck next time" as far as scholarships go.. That is reality. It is great that your Rat has that attitude. Mine is confident that he will bring it up, but not willing to put a number on it. He just wants to remain in good standing and pass everything that he needs to remain on schedule within his major. Just hope he can buckle down even more once breakout is over... We shall see. One of the benefits of repeating a class is that the D in Calc will get replaced which will really help the GPA for scholarship consideration. Not sure if he will re take the same History class which would seem to be the wise choice.
