Hi! I'm looking for suggestions for a DS for high school graduation. I'd like to do something collectible militaria, probably WW2 era, but I'm not knowledgeable enough about what would be a cool gift. He has an escape map (and we found an identical map in the Spy Museum in DC, which is cool), lots of foreign currencies of countries that no longer exist, war debt certificates, Navy photo journals, & some WW2 German medals. He has always been a WW2 buff & it was really the only thing he'd read.
So as a fellow military enthusiasts...what collectible would be really neat to own?

Without knowing your budget for this, I'll just throw this idea out there.

You could get him a good quality replica M-1 Garand. Put "Denix WWII M1 Garand .30 Caliber Replica Rifle" in the search bar.
One can be had from "replicaweaponry" for about $200. Suitable for hanging on the wall or just futzing around with.

If he has a car, you could alternately get him a Jerry Can. The good ones (made like they originally were) are about $60 and come from a company called Gelgusa. There is a great story surrounding the initial German design and why it was so perfect. When the allied forces started to copy it, they didn't get all the nuances right, which lead to leaks and all sorts of issues. This one (pictured below) is a faithful reproduction. You can buy them on Amazon, but they are not the same.

Along this line... most civilian college kids need things for dorms & college. When people ask what they can get your kid going to a service academy for graduation ... what do you say?

This is what gives me the most anxiety...is he in and can have pretty much nothing there? Or will he be at a civilian college & need everything including a car?
But if they wanted an answer now, I'd say really good hiking socks and Southwest gift cards. Lol The only things needed either way, besides a good bottle of scotch for mom!
