An interesting article on the development of guided bullets for snipers.

http://www.marinecorpstimes.com/sto...ke-marine-corps-snipers-more-deadly/21392819/

According to the article: "After successfully test firing a guided .50-caliber round this summer, the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency is now conducting "system-level" testing, which will help determine how a guided bullet would work with a service rifle on the battlefield."

I remain skeptical about the performance of this gun system in combat conditions and the wide spread deployment within Infantry units but heck... it appears to be pretty amazing technology.

It is interesting- of course given the economics of Government procurement- it could wind up costing about $1million per round :)

Yes, but the round will be made using components from 38 different states, so the program will never be cut.

You guys are so much more eloquent than I am. ;)

When I said I had concerns about widespread deployment what I meant was "cost" and combat conditions meant "EMP, rain, sand, mud, etc"

For all those reasons (and more) I don't really see this going anywhere. But if Scout is correct and we can build enough political clout to fund this from both sides of the aisle ... who knows? Maybe a $1 million bullet is feasible!! :D
