Created this as a place for appointees (Plebes To Be, P2B) and their parents to come with the inevitable questions that pop up every year.

Note NAPSters report in the day before I-Day to complete their transition.

Some handy links:

The USNA calendars:

Plebe Summer Home on usna.edu. Browse all pages and links. The Class of 2027 info will be updated for Class of 2028 in late spring. The basics usually do not change. The Permit to Report serves as the reporting-in directive.

USNA Parents Clubs info and locator. These are supported by the independent non-profit USNA Alumni Assn (www.usna.com). Local parents’ clubs often host appointee meet and greet events in the month or two before I-Day. Contact them. You will be welcomed. USNA does not distribute appointee names to them.

A look back at Class of 2027 I-Day!

First Tips:
- Go back and browse previous years’ I-Day threads, AFTER you have browsed Plebe Summer Home.
- Book hotels now. You and 1100-ish families are converging in a small town.
- Apply for tourist passport now. NOT required for I-Day, but a lot easier to get done now than while a plebe. Interesting opportunities will abound. Parents can bring/send after Plebe Summer.

I have already put the cart before the horse…. Booked a nice room at the Annapolis Waterfront Hotel. I have a room, nomination, completed CFA and DoDMERB. DS has been awarded a 4 year NROTC SCHOLARSHIP so that hopefully indicates he’s 3Q.
All we need now is an offer of appointment!
🤣🤣🙏🇺🇸

Me too! Booked Marriot early for June 25-28 and an airbnb for parent's weekend in August. The first Airbnb already cancelled on me so I rebooked

Oh, vaccinations - go read the Class of 2027 stuff at link above, to get a general idea, understanding things do get tweaked a bit year to year.

Flu shot - get now. Can be hard to find in the spring.

Some others take some spacing. Read for awareness.

Flu shot is recommended but not required.

I read somewhere but can't seem to find it...the schedule of the plebe parents weekend. It was something about the hours they were allowed to be off and what they wanted to do as far as hang out. Maybe in the Airbnb. Can someone repost that??

Plebe Parents’ Weekend happens at the six-week mark of Plebe Summer. That will be Aug 8-11, 2024 next year. Plebes are released to families each day… after noon formation on Friday (you can also watch their PEP workout at 5:45am on Friday), after the Formal Parade on Saturday morning, and Sunday morning. They must report back to Bancroft each evening. They will remain in uniform in public and in their PT clothes in private. They will likely want to sleep, eat, and relax. It is best to make hotel/rental home reservations early. It is not essential to be right next to USNA. Plebes will want some space and want to avoid running into detailers. Plebe Summer will continue for one more week after PPW and conclude when the Brigade reforms, company leadership takes over from detailers, and everyone prepares for the start of the academic year.

I'm assuming that everyone else here has regular colleges that they also applied to. Now that you've gotten into an academy and assuming that you plan to attend an academy, what are you planning to do about the other schools with outstanding applications? Especially if they're already submitted.

I did search the forums, but I don't think I successfully found the correct words to get any results. My parents are split. I've been accepted to my state school so my dad told me to keep the ROTC tied schools and any school I would go to over my state school but drop the rest. My mum says to just keep them all because it doesn't matter since the schools expect some people to turn them down.

Obviously, it's wise to keep a few schools in case something like a major illness or accident happens that derails your academy dream, but is there any general consensus of what the right thing to do is for the rest? Just let them ride and see what happens, or pull a few applications, especially for Early Acceptance applications, where the decision might go to someone else?

If I get the USNA appointment before the decisions for my EA schools (I do have an LOA) come out (Jan-Feb) + the UC schools (March), I will accept the offer to USNA immediately, then decline every other school except for my two top choices, JUST IN CASE. There is a deadline for enrollment for any school, May 1st for most, but I believe if one, unfortunately, can not go to an academy, they can explain their situation to the office, and they can make an exception. Once you get into a school, it is harder for them to say no. I don't know if that makes sense, but I feel it is the most logical thing to do, considering planning A, B, and C out.

Shopping the Official Online Mid Store

Feeling the need to obtain more swag? Your dog or cat or goat need N* gear? A Midnopoly game for the holidays? Have some fun browsing every category.

This is the Mid Store Online, where all proceeds go back to the Brigade “fun fund.”

And to include Naval Academy Athletic Association (NAAA):

Missed the 20% flash sale that ended the other day. Just didn't put the emphasis on N* shopping over other life events. :P

Will buy plenty once that elusive “offer of appointment” comes along.
Hoping for an early Christmas gift from Admissions!
🎅
Same....this mom would like to start buying ALL the shirts. We own plenty of West Point swag already, but it's about 50/50 that I'll be buying Naval items. My Army Brat heart has softened a bit towards USNA b/c it's my "baby" that will be there, but my husband is having a very very hard time with this and just keeps mumbling "Go Army" type things every time we talk over the options :p

Do as one of our USNA sponsor family mid’s USMA grad parents did. Got a USMA hoodie and a USNA hoodie. Got them cut in half and assembled as two mirror image 50-50 hoodies. Hilarious.

Sniff some salt, it helps with acclimation
