They do improve, some, a lot. Best piece of advice is to show up to PS in good shape to begin with, especially running. A lot of plebes aren’t used to the running and end up getting shin splints / stress fractures. You figure they are running over 100 miles during the structured workouts plus a lot of off the books running with their various tasks and training evolutions. Plus, anticipate getting sick.Out of curiosity, do most plebes improve physically from the IPRT to the PRT administered at the end of the summer? I would assume that the daily grind would help the plebes bolster their scores on the pushups, plank and 1.5 mile run.
Work with your HS track XC coach to put together a plan where you are building up your running to 25 miles per week by the start of PS. Key is to start now. Also, find a good pair of running shoes that work well for you, and buy a couple of duplicate pairs for PS.
DD was terrible at Plebe Summer. However, she showed up in good shape, was running about 25 miles per week, and had worked on upper body strength during the spring. The daily workouts were easy and in fact she quite enjoyed them because it was the one thing she was good at.
