Hangout: USNA Induction Day / I-Day Class of 2028: Thursday 27 June 2024

Out of curiosity, do most plebes improve physically from the IPRT to the PRT administered at the end of the summer? I would assume that the daily grind would help the plebes bolster their scores on the pushups, plank and 1.5 mile run.
They do improve, some, a lot. Best piece of advice is to show up to PS in good shape to begin with, especially running. A lot of plebes aren’t used to the running and end up getting shin splints / stress fractures. You figure they are running over 100 miles during the structured workouts plus a lot of off the books running with their various tasks and training evolutions. Plus, anticipate getting sick.

Work with your HS track XC coach to put together a plan where you are building up your running to 25 miles per week by the start of PS. Key is to start now. Also, find a good pair of running shoes that work well for you, and buy a couple of duplicate pairs for PS.

DD was terrible at Plebe Summer. However, she showed up in good shape, was running about 25 miles per week, and had worked on upper body strength during the spring. The daily workouts were easy and in fact she quite enjoyed them because it was the one thing she was good at.

Got it. Do a lot of plebes add some push-ups to their PRT score? I

Many do. The cadence push ups are a different beast, so being able to train on that helps. They generally take their PRT at the end of Plebe Summer, usually after PPW. Some might be sick or still struggling with PPW after effects. Every person is different. Honestly it’s really hard to fail the PRT after PS. Even Plebe year where they have structured workouts a great deal. 3/C year and behind there is much less oversight and it’s upon the Mid to workout and get it done.

Thank you. I can crush the non cadence push ups but you are correct that the cadence ones are a different beast. I am training currently but still a few shy of consistently hitting 35. I appreciate the input and feel good knowing PS will help me improve all of this.

I have the I-day dates and hotel already reserved.

Do a lot of midshipmen end up staying on campus for Thanksgiving break since it appears they only get Thursday-Sunday off?
If they stay there for Thanksgiving should we try and come visit or they will have plenty of others to keep them company?

When is parent's weekend for 2024? I can't seem to find dates for that!
From what I herd this year, most left the yard, went home or somewhere else. There were not very many that stayed. Those staying in Bancroft, were assigned a good amount of watches this year. Don't bet on staying to just relax or sleeping in especially for plebe.

Not as many kids on restriction. As a result, my kid had to do a 24 hour watch shift over the XMas break since we are local.

If you’re on the eastern side of the country, Thanksgiving travel is usually feasible, but longer trips can get hairy. They can leave Wednesday afternoon and have to be back Sunday. Lots of mids go to other mids’ or sponsors’ houses. We had two extra mids with our plebe this year. Some families travel to Maryland and spend the holiday there because they can be more flexible with their travel window. Some mids stay, but all are taken care of by the USNA community.

Plebe Parents’ Weekend will be Aug 8-10, 2024. (Plebe Summer lasts 6 weeks) It starts early Friday. Families can watch PEP workout at 5:45am, followed by the Commandants Welcome at 10am, and then plebes are released to families at Noon Meal Formation. They return to Bancroft that evening. Saturday morning is a formal parade, then they released for the day, and you see them again on Sunday before they go back to finish Plebe Summer and prepare for Brigade Reform and the Academic Year.
Is there a ceremony for families when Plebe Summer ends?

Is there a ceremony for families when Plebe Summer ends?
No, they report back to Bancroft on Sunday night at the end of PPW and it’s right back to the grind. They finish Plebe Summer, get issued their laptops and books, get school supplies, move into their AC year rooms, get ready for Brigade Reform, meet all their upperclassmen and company officers, and there’s a huge Brigade celebration the night before classes start (food trucks, music, etc) and then they jump right in!!

Not a ceremony like the I-day ceremony. They have Plebe Parent Weekend, plebes can spend time with their family, they show the yard, our plebe took us to see the ship simulator - which was pretty cool. There is a presentation for the parents right before liberty starts where they show a video of what they have done during the summer and talk about what to expect during academic year.

During Plebe Parents Weekend there are many family events. The commandant, superintendent, provost, and others address the families and show a video from everything that happened during Plebe Summer. There is Noon Meal Formation and families are invited into Bancroft Hall to see their rooms (on of only 2 times parents are allowed in). There is a Formal Parade where you see all their drill, the bands, and Color Company is announced.

I have already put the cart before the horse…. Booked a nice room at the Annapolis Waterfront Hotel. I have a room, nomination, completed CFA and DoDMERB. DS has been awarded a 4 year NROTC SCHOLARSHIP so that hopefully indicates he’s 3Q.
All we need now is an offer of appointment!
🤣🤣🙏🇺🇸
Float4, I have been watching the forums for a while and last week I posted that my DS received his appointment. You certainly did put the cart before the horse, I am curious how it worked out?

Nothing yet.. Waiting on USNA and RD at civilian schools.
The wait is tough but in the end he’ll have good choices!
Congratulations on appointment

We have hotels booked in New London, Annapolis, and West Point 🫣 He's gotten into 2 of 3, still waiting on WP. Better to have too many and cancel then wait too long and none left.

Cpt MJ, Thanks for doing all of this. My Question of the day is in looking at the USNA site, i see I day is the 27th of June. Is this a hard and fast date? gotten intel that, which i highly doubt, that the date can change. It looks like it has traditionally been the last THursday in June for a few cycles at lease. TIA

It’s a hard and fast date. NAPSters and prior enlisted report on Tues/Wed and directs appointees on Thurs morning. They will receive their report times in May. Families will see them again in T-Court that evening when they take the oath at 6pm and say their goodbyes.
