Today, as we celebrate our 247th birthday, we must remember who we are, where we came from, and why we’re here. We value the sacrifices and contributions of every Marine and Sailor, as well as our family members without whose support we would not be able to accomplish our mission. And we remain committed to being our Nation’s Expeditionary Force in Readiness that sets the standard for honor, discipline, and courage. I am proud of each and every one of you. Happy Birthday, Marines!

Here's to cheating, stealing, fighting, and drinking.

If you cheat, may you cheat death.
If you steal, may you steal another's heart.
If you fight, may you fight for your brother.
If you drink, may you drink with me.

Today marks the 247th birthday of the Marine Corps. What follows is an excerpt from Gen. John A. Lejeune's birthday message that is read every year on this day.

"In every battle and skirmish since the birth of our Corps Marines have acquitted themselves with the greatest distinction, winning new honors on each occasion until the term Marine has come to signify all that is highest in military efficiency and soldierly virtue."

Semper Fi Marines!

Nothing but fond memories of Marines and shared experiences during our Med and North Atlantic cruises. Semper Fidelis to all Marines past, present and future.

DD got to celebrate and observe the USMC birthday four times as a USNA mid. Her firstie-year event was particularly interesting because she was just days away from learning whether she’d land USMC as her service assignment. Now she gets to celebrate as an actual Marine at Quantico among her TBS mates. I’ve a feeling it will be grand. And I trust the TBS instructors will have a heart come tomorrow. 😉
