Has West Point given out any appointments yet?

I received an LOA back in September and quickly finished the rest of my application but then months later things in my portal began to pop up such as the CFA videos, etc.
So I am finishing what I am needing to but notice no one has really posted about receiving an appointment. Does anyone have an idea of when those with LOAs might hear? I talked to admissions at my visit and already have a presidential nom they would use..

My DS is in the same exact holding pattern. My DS' friend from a running summer camp received an Appointment back in November. LOA and then a National Guard nomination. He's the only one that we've heard.

WP Admissions has been extremely adamant about not making their Appointment Decisions until February 28th even if you have a nomination confirmed.

However, last year, it seems as though a sizable amount of Offers of Appointment were made before Christmas and mid-January.

I think WP is waiting for the MOC nomination slates to finalize themselves. IMHO.
 
Padre, does that mean that with a completed application and some congressional noms, we will still probably have to wait until around February - at the earliest? Just wondering because I'm starting to see AFA appointments go out to people that didn't have LOAs, but received congressional noms as well.
 
A year ago, my DS received an LOE in Sept and was offered an appt on Jan 27th and then heard from Navy about 10 days later. I would guess LOA's hear before LOE's?? But then again-----no one really knows this complex process! ;)

GOOD LUCK and if we could do it all again---it would be to do whatever you can to not worry and do whatever you can to help your DS or DD enjoy his/her senior year.
 
My DS received his Appointment and Accepted in October. I am not 100% where the nomination came from, as he just got his MOC Nomination recently. The portal shows his acceptance but not the Nomination source, yet.
 
DD had her file complete Aug 26, received a 3Q Letter Oct 28, P-NOM Nov 12, and senator NOM Nov 22. We are curious about the possibility of receiving an appointment sooner than the talked about early March wave we hear people discussing.

USAFA offered her an appointment yesterday (Dec 3). From a competition for kids standpoint, it seems that USAFA is making a play to attract candidates, and perhaps "steal" away from the other SA with their faster timelines. So far, DD is holding strong. She's going to weigh all offers then decide. Luckily, USAFA gave her an Apr 15 deadline. Hope USMA acts before then.

There are always going to be exceptions, but both my DS's FFO and RC have repeatedly stated that WP does not have rolling admissions or early action admissions and that decisions will be sent out in Feb. They have contacted my DS because he's sitting on offers of appointment from three other SAs and a NROTC scholarship.

The FFO told my DS to wait because that's how WP does things. It is what it is.

Patience is truly a virtue.

One of my daughters teammates has already received her appointment. She is not a recruited athlete, and I don't know if she had an LOA. But, at least some appointments have gone out, apparently.
 
There have been a few appointments offered at this time. These candidates WP wants to capture before anyone else does. They still have the opportunity to decline and attend an Ivy League or another SA. Don't worry about this, it will drive you crazy! This is the most difficult part, the waiting!!

The SA's don't really care whether or not a candidate is actively pursuing multiple appointments. They have no way knowing and are completely uninterested. No one is going to come chasing (athletic recruitment not withstanding)

Additionally, one has no "faster" time than another e.g. all applications, nominations, etc. need to be complete and submitted by January 31st for each. It doesn't mean that some won't hear before others and some already have but for the overwhelming majority of all candidates, they will begin to hear in the early Spring.

Finally, once an appointee is offered they have until either April 15th or May 1st (USNA) to notify them of accepting or declining the offer.

We've been reading for months about how SA's use LOA's to "attract" candidates and get them interested early because they are often viewed as highly competitive. That would certainly indicate there is some level of caring on the part of the SA's.

If a candidate has the exact same file at the different SA's and one gives them an LOA and an appointment months before the others, then their timeline is most definitely faster....or at least their notification procedures are faster. Those who offer sooner certainly create a perception that they "want" the candidate more. If nothing else, it's an illusion that exists. Perhaps from the SA perspective they have plenty of highly qualified candidates and they can afford to operate this way.

I'm not at all trying to be critical...just making an observation as we have nothing else to do but wait....

I generally concur with Brave's sentiments. I am seeing it firsthand with my DS. Having an early offer of appointment from SA does give the real impression that he is wanted by a SA. No mistaken that.

Also, it truly makes my DS really think about just pulling the trigger and making a decision so he can start preparing the next stage of his life. It's the bird in the hand mentality.

However, in the case of WP, having the RC and FFO send messages and calling does make up for it.

Offering an early appointment can be viewed as SA wanting that candidate. But you have to understand there are candidates who are going to be appointed so they give that option early. And then there are those who will be captured early. At WP admissions, Im sure there are a stack of files steadily growing that will be offered an appointment but will not be distributed until later in bulk. But for now, as you wait don't stress out about it. This is the most difficult time. The waiting can be agonizing! Stay the course! Work hard at school, stay out of trouble and keep healthy. Work on your Plan B!

Comparing what other SA are doing is like comparing apples to oranges. SA have different missions and different class composition goals.
