Found out I've been DQ for an AROTC scholarship. I didn't meet the required hearing standards. I was prepared for this to happen before I even went to the doc's office so I'm not exactly blindsided by the DQ, but still disappointed. The doc said that I had trouble with hearing higher frequencies, but since I didn't have any problems conversationally and in daily life, he didn't think there would be an issue. Well standards are standards so yeah, I understand why I got the DQ anyway. What I'd like to know is are hearing waivers common? I know it can't be a sure answer with budget cuts and RIF going on, but maybe someone knows around here. Also, could I still commission eventually? I've read that hearing loss closes off some certain enlisted jobs, so would the same thing be true for officers? Thanks in advance
