I just learned I'll have a family member up here for Herndon on May 15th.

I've heard you're typically pretty shot afterwards, but could anyone share with me what the rest of the day after the climb looks like? Do you get an overnight or town libo?

Thanks

I do not recall if the entire class gets an overnight. . .But you can always put in for it. . .Definitely at least liberty. . .

There will be plenty of spectators there, and your company mates will also have family there. For our company, there was a Facebook page created just for Herndon, and we discussed different gatherings. We brought up the different options to our daughter, and had her choose which ones to go to. Ended up going to one with about 5 of her company mates, then out to dinner, and that was it.

No overnight as it wasn't on a Friday. If I recall, '26 was in the middle of the week, just after Sea Trials (considered Herndon part of it last year). Kid had liberty after, but we just hung out with him on the Yard for a bit, then went home.

As for being cooked? About 75 - 80% of the class will just be standing around and cheering on the class, getting sprayed some with hoses. You will more than likely be cooked from Sea Trials in general. There is only so much room to climb and you can only fit so many people. My kid didn't engage in the shenanigans and was just there cheering everyone on. His company was really aggressive in the pursuit to the top, with the eventual person who capped it coming from it (he was in 28th - The Club, last year).

What time should one get there on May 15th to be there for a good spot to watch?
We arrived 45 mins before and could see everything. Hopefully it isn't too long. I moved around a couple times to get different view and pictures. Keep an eye out as many company parents do a meetup (DW saw on FB that DS Company, 6th last yr., was selling T-shirts). It was great meeting parents of ds 's friends and funny seeing the creativity of the different Company T-shirts and the slogans

... do you know if this is 24 hours after sea trials??
Last year's climb was, and DS looked like he just pulled an All-Nighter watch in Bancroft during Christmas Eve -- total exhaustion. 🥜

It’s the morning after Sea Trials. This new schedule is to be more like a crucible-type event with Herndon being the finish, like was done last year.

And as seems to be a newer tradition, parents from kids in each company are usually making tee-shirts for other parents to buy. Usually, the BLB pages for the class on Facebook will have sub groups for each company. It is cool to have a shirt with all the kid's names, company logo, "plebe no more," and anything else the people put on there for the event. We bought one for the mid as well.

My kid's Chief took a pic of our shirt as he provided the logo and names to the mom who coordinated the shirt design and order. He was super proud of his mids.
