Hello,
I recently accepted my offer of appointment to the usna, and I am beyond words excited. However, something has popped up in the past few days that is extremely worrying for me. I had hernia surgery when I was about 5 years old, and have had absolutely no issues since. However, about two days ago, I started to notice a slight but noticeable pain in the exact same spot that I had my surgery. I still can't really feel anything, but I'm not a doctor so I can't say for sure what is or isn't going on. Maybe I'm just psyching myself out, but assuming I did have a recurring hernia, would this disqualify me from going to the usna, even if I had surgery on it before I day and I am okay going into plebe summer?

Any response would be VERY appreciated. Thank you

I don’t know the answer to that, but don’t think for a minute about trying to avoid it or reporting it to USNA should it turn out to be ‘something’.

I think you should talk to your parents about it. Figure out what to do with them. And then do it. Not going to give medical advice BC I’m not qualified to. But don’t try and avoid/hide it as
1) your health is important
2) hiding it can be very problematic down the road

DS’s roommate was sent home Iday, from a reported injury that hadn’t healed to USNA’s standards. It does happen.

Go see a Doctor. It is 108 days until I-Day.

Assuming I had this repaired a few months before I day, do you believe it would be a DQ?

1) Go to the Doctor, find out what the problem is.
2) If repair is necessary, ask a Dr. not some anonymous internet source, about recovery time.
3) Once you have real information, contact USNA and determine effect on Appointment.

Was the Surgery when you were 5 disclosed to DODMERB ?

No idea. I am not a Doctor, nor do I work in Admissions! ;)

Yes, it was. I'm just hoping that a remedial surgery a few months before I day won't be a dq

Unfortunately, no one here can answer that one way or another. As has been noted above, first and foremost, look after your health first. Nothing is more important. Second, at this juncture you're just self-diagnosing as to what you may or may not have and assuming what treatment may or may not be forthcoming.
I think your first task is to go see a physician and get a diagnosis as to your condition. That will help determine what happens next.
I wish you the best and hope it's just something minor.

I am a physician. If this is an inguinal hernai recurrence you need about 6 weeks recovery time after surgery until unrestricted activity. But this could also be nerve pain from your previous surgery. Nothing to do about that. Typically remains mild. Good luck to you!

So did you have a hernia, or was it just an irritated pimple, or an ingrown hair? Can you tell how it went? In a similar situation

This thread dates back almost 2 years. Posters may have moved on.

Gotta laugh...I read the original post and was going to respond ...then scrolling down I saw I already had. Funny part is my new answer would have been the same as the original !
Deja vu all over again around here. Happens to me too. Scary when I see how long I have been pontificat…posting.
