Its just a form that your SAI fills out and submits to the academy, really simple process.

Not that it might make much of a difference in my situation, but what did you look like during the application process? Leadership and Academic wise?

Unweighted GPA: 3.9
SAT/ACT superscored: 1480/33

Leadership:
- representative for a state korean association, received honors for my work
- adviser for the principal
- first sergeant of JROTC, over 500 hours invested
- teacher at a korean missionary school, over 400 hours invested
- president of National Technical Honor Society (NTHS)

Sports:
-Varsity Football, one season with varsity letter (I was 3rd string linebacker 😁)

CFA:
- above average everything except mile and sit ups (below average sit ups 😔)

MISC.:
- Boys State
- Coast Guard AIM Program (Really recommend you checking that out, more realistic experience than SLEs)

Essay/Interview Topics (which all connect to each other) :
- Passion for teaching/inspiring others (my time as a teacher and first sgt)
- Leadership (Representative, adviser, teacher, and first sgt)
- Dedication/Commitment (joined rotc my junior year, worked my butt off to go from e-1 to e-8 because I loved the program and also the many hours of teaching)

I'm not in NHS, not an Eagle Scout, not an athlete by any means, no letter of assurance or encouragement, and no other nom besides JROTC Honor Unit of Distinction. I made sure to have a distinct and clear identify. I was not a part of every club there was, I worked and became committed to being a leader in the few clubs I'm in. I've only known about ROTC and the academies for a year and a half. You have 3 years ahead of you. I know you can accomplish a lot more than I have. Best of luck.

The forum is full of the same question. To be blunt no one can tell you what your chances are. All the service academies look at the whole person. The ‘shape’ that they are looking for is well known, they tell you! But there are lots of little things that go into deciding whether an appointment is offered.

Just do the very best that you can and ensure you do things that you enjoy; do not waste time on activities that you only do because you think they will strengthen your application.

Are you a junior or senior in high school? If a senior, did you actually go to AIM or SLE (or both) and get into an academy?

If you are a senior, did you not get any other noms that you applied for?

I'm a senior, I went to the summer programs, and I got in. I recommended AIM over SLE because the cadre at CGA make it a lot more realistic to CBT. If you're willing to go through AIM experience for 8 weeks then you're ready for BEAST.

I applied for a congressional, but my congressman passed the day I turned my application in. I check in a few days later to see who my interview would be with, I find out my application is invalidated. Reasoning? Not even the office knew why. Didn't whine and just brushed it off. Glad I had the JROTC Nom. I used my senatorial nomination to AFA.
