I wouldn't label it as "it's not going to be that much help." It really depends on what the internship is and what you do with it. This would be a great thing to possibly talk about at your BGO interview as some of the activities you have participated in -- but keep in mind it depends how you make of the internship, what you contributed, what you learned, how it is practically applied in the real world, etc. It also shows that you did not sit on your behind the whole summer and were (possibly) applying what you learned in the classroom to real world applications. I think GoNavyPro was trying to make the point that if you do not do well in other aspects of your application, the internship will not matter -- so be sure to make the other parts of your application competitive.
Furthermore, in certain circumstances, this is where another letter of recommendation MIGHT be appropriate -- especially, if your work/research had a direct impact to changes/integration in the company's operations, maintenance, procedures, etc. However, you must make sure that this kind of LOR will not be repetitive.
As I have said numerous times on this board, the ONE UNIQUE thing that you do COULD be a deciding or "wow" factor.
As always, don't do what you do because it "looks good" but do it because you want to help/make a difference and everything else will fall where it should.
