My grades were not so good either going into VMI in 1990. What I did have was a good all-around application with extra-curricular activities (church, Scouts, Etc.), varsity athletics, part time job, and several letters of recommendation from VMI alumni. If you know any alumni, reach out to them and see if they would be willing to help. They usually will bend over backward to help you. One of my son's classmates was turned down at USNA but was accepted to VMI. I did write him a letter of recommendation but I'm sure he would have gotten in on his own merits. It's a very tight fraternity and we'll help anyone in any way we can.
