I just realized that USNA no longer publishes the Supe or Dant lists, or at least they aren't available on the public website like they were every semester in the past. I wonder what the reason is. Is it privacy? Although the athletic dept still publishes names of athletes who achieved academic honors. In the end I guess the Mids who made the lists know, which is most important, and if they get extra liberty, that's even more important in their eyes!

I imagine it is for privacy/security.

Do they still wear a special pin?

Was never an issue for me.

"On uniform" means 1/2" above the SDB lapel anchors (for example).

However, some choose not to wear them, I have heard.

I think DS mentioned something about it being a pain to move it from uniform to uniform, but I could have that mistaken with something else.

There was a lengthy thread on this issue last year. My recollection is those that didn't wear stars were worried about being branded as geeks.
Bottom line, if a Midshipman has earned as is awarded Stars, it is part of the uniform --so wearing it is mandatory.
(Here is a surprise ..compliance with the Uniform Regs is not optional; that's why its called a UNIFORM..:"

I wondered about this recently after seeing a picture of a past Brigade Commander who didn't wear stars. I don't think I can remember a 5/6 striper from my day without them.

My DS has never worn his stars. Probably out of uniform regs. The one time he did go to the uniform store to get them, they were out. Seems the “lists” are nothing burgers.

Wearing the stars may be nothing burgers, but qualifying for the right to wear them is not.

Same thing with the "N" sweater. Earning those stars is a big deal. Although, there may be less reluctance in displaying those as compared to the others.

DD is certainly not averse to having her sweater stars displayed, even though she has never worn her Supe's stars.

Go figure.

Not trying to be argumentative here but just trying to educate myself with the ways of the Navy.
In the Army, there are minimum requirements in terms of things that go on a uniform. After those requirements are met, then it is up to the wearer to decide what else to wear. It’s all, some, or none.
On your class B, you have to wear your name tag, rank, and, I think, your regimental crest. After that, whatever other bling you put on is on you.
In the Navy, are you required to wear all the ribbons, awards, etc that you’re authorized to wear? I don’t know the formal name but it’s the all-khaki uniform the navy folks wear. I notice some wear all their ribbons. Some wear their top 3 or 6 ribbons? If you have a warfare badge, you’re required to wear if you’ve earned it? I don’t know that’s why I’m asking.

My son doesn’t wear his. Not because he is a nerd etc.

He doesn’t want to be differentiated from his equal peers who don’t make the list.

The Navy allows wear of EITHER the top three ribbons or the entire rack when ribbons are worn. Wearing of top 6 is not authorized.
I've never seen nor heard of someone NOT wearing their Warfare device. There is an option whether or not to wear a SECONDARY
warfare device which might be a SWO who is also entitled to the airborne qual or an enlisted warfare device pin.

N Sweater is much more prized and actively worn because when you wear it, you do NOT wear a cover.
Back in the day, walking across the yard to class without a cover on a spring day was like being on vacation.

Well, I learned something today. I'll bet that is pretty great.
