My son received the NJROTC nomination as well as one from his MOC. Is it true that the Academy can use a candidate's second nomination for another candidate that didn't receive a nomination? If so, can they use it even if they decide not to extend an offer of appointment to my son? Thanks for any clarification!

no those are his noms...others may have the same noms but would not take from him.

Someone(s) will be charged to the NJROTC spots. And somone will be charged to the MOC slate. You son is competing in both places. He will never lose the nominations. He may or may not be appointed (and charged) to one of them.

You may want to refresh on the Sticky Post at the top of the Nominations forum. Good info on sources and numbers of noms. The SAs have nom sources they control or manage.

Let’s say your son is offered an appointment, and the SA decides to charge it to the elected official. There are no doubt more applicants who have submitted a JROTC or ROTC nom than the number of appointments that is allowed to be charged to that source, which is 20.

If you really want to dive into minutiae, take a look at:

Thank you all so much for the helpful information. Thank you for taking the time. Happy New Year!
