Currently, I'm a Junior in highschool. So far (don't want to jinx it) I have a 4.0 gpa with a total of 5 AP classes. I ran track but transitioned over to lacrosse in my sophmore year. I'm involved in 1 service club and 1 academic club. I'm also interning on my congress person's campaign. What are some additional steps I can take in order ot increase my chances of getting in. Thanks in advance.

Keep chugging along the way you are. If you're a Junior now, I wouldn't suggest changing anything.

How about getting a PT job? If not this past summer, I’d have it on my radar for next summer. Start applying over spring break. I’m a head lifeguard and it looks good on a resume!

Take a look at Boys State (the program by the American Legion and not the recently released movie). You can attend your state's Boys State program the summer before your Senior Year. Contact you local American Legion chapter as they will need them to sponsor you.

Review your desired SA websites to ensure you are taking the courses they recommend. Take the hardest ones your school offers.

Look for leadership opportunities in sports and ECs. Figure out how to make a difference not just hold a title.

Don’t experiment with anything you shouldn’t!

It’s not about quantity but quality.

Really apprecieate all the responses. No one in my family has ever served before so this world is completely new to me. My passion for the service academies has really lit a fire underneath me.

Leadership! Become president/VP/director of one of the clubs. Boys/Girls State looks good for leadership too. Service is important too. Make sure you get into National Honor Society. Check the Class Portrait on the USNA website. It lists many of the activities they ask about.

My thinking is that they look at your first six (6) semesters of High School (next semester is the last semester). Don't change anything. Keep getting those As and make sure that you get all the information you need this year, before school is over before the Summer. That means talk to the teachers that you'll need information from and inform them of your intent to apply for admission to USNA. Do that now. Get their personal EMail addresses and/or phone numbers (if they'll give them to you) so that you can contact them when school isn't in session - if need be - or if their .edu school address sends emails from you or from the Academy to SPAM or a junk folder. This goes for whomever (Gym Teacher/Coach) is going to administer/witness your CFA. School EMail address have been the source of issues/delays in the past.

Get online and figure out how and when to apply for MOC nominations. You need to apply to your District's Representative in the House, your two (2) Senators, and the Vice-President. If either one of your parents served in the military, find out what you need to do to apply for the Presidential nomination, as well. ALL of those nominations have different deadlines. Make sure that you know what those dates are.

More PT! I can’t stress enough the importance of being in the best shape possible for the CFA and keeping up the physical regimen throughout your career.
Get a PT job at a gym... two birds with one stone.

As was said before- it's quality not quantity. Anything you can do in those areas to show excellence and leadership is preferable to looking to add more.

* Hard classes with good test scores wherever possible
* Leadership or excellence in lacrosse
* Leadership or impact in clubs
* Essays that show you've done your homework in what it means to serve
