I accepted my appointment to KP, but also got into my number 2 and 3. Is there a way to essentially "half-commit" in case something that could rescind my appointment like a sports injury occurs so that I can still attend college in the fall if the worst does happen?

There are many threads regarding planning and protecting plans B,C and D. Some parents and or student pay the deposit and dorm fee to hold their spot. Some of those funds may be refundable some may not. It is a calculated risk.
Some don’t find their golden ticket until after the national acceptance day of May 1. Some have unforeseen injuries or illness in the time between that and IDay that end their chance for that admission cycle and push them back a year.
But that year needs to be at a college mimicking a plebe schedule and kicking butt.
It’s a very scary and precipitous path to navigate.

Also many references to wrapping oneself in bubble wrap and socially distancing prior to report date. It’s real. It’s a thing. I tried to keep my kid out of his car, off the Taekwondo mat and away from a Covid humans for like five months prior to his IDay.

Of the plan B’s that our DS had, there were a couple of options at the top of his list. He contacted each of them, one of them was willing to refund all of his deposits that would be necessary to hold his spot so that was the one he set up as his Plan B.

Some universities are very happy to work with somebody who has received an appointment and is going to serve. Once our DS was through basic, I actually contacted the University and initiated the refunds since he was busy at the Academy. All worked out well.

Upon being informed DD had accepted an appointment to KP, 2 other colleges told her that they would hold her acceptance for 2 years. And wished her luck. This occurred before any deposits were due.

So did she defer at those 2 schools? Can you tell me what she said when she called them? Thanks.

She thanked them for their acceptance but indicated she had accepted an appointment to KP. They congratulated her, wished her well, and said a spot would be available to her for 2 years, obviously knowing that one can leave a SA within the first 2 years with no obligations.

Pre-Covid there was some trouble with getting housing at many schools if you came to the table late, so folks would make deposits just in case. Enrollments have dropped the past couple years so many schools aren't as tight as they were. Contact one or two and explain things and I'm sure you'll find one that would be happy to save a fall spot in case of injury or a change in plans.
