I just received word that I was selected for the scholarship, but they have not determined a school yet. My first choice was the Virginia Military Institute(Out-of-state for me). Do certain schools have more slots than others? And, is it more competitive to get selected for an out-of-state university?

Congratulations! Yes, some units are bigger than others. It depends on how many cadre are assigned. I think the other thing that factors into the decision is how many scholarship students list that school as a top choice. They have to balance out the students among the schools where they have cadre.

I don't know if it's more competitive to be selected for an out-of-state school. Anecdotal information from past boards makes me think it's not, but each board gets its own set of rules.
