How does the amount of SA prep school students in my area affect my chances of admission?

Hi, I'm a senior applying to all the service academies, and I was wondering if there being a lot of students from my area at prep schools this year lowers my chances of getting in. For example, of the 4 senatorial nominations given in my area of the state, I got one, and the other three went to students at NAPS. I know the academies like to choose candidates that aren't all from one area of a state. Are students at prep schools counted as people competing for admission in the class of 2025, even though they are guaranteed a spot, or are there just specific spots reserved for people at prep school and they don't affect regular admissions? I tried looking this up, but I couldn't really find anything. Thanks!

NAPSters at prep this year are candidates for 2025 just like anyone else, whether in HS, college or any other status.

NAPSters are required to apply for all noms for which they are eligible. Since they are in enlisted status, they now qualify for one of the categories of noms managed by the Superintendent. You may want to refresh on the Sticky Note at the top of the Nominations forum. The SA can also choose others off an elected official’s slate but charge the appointment elsewhere.

If the NAPSters satisfactorily complete their course and are qualified in other aspects, a nom will be found for them if they are unable to obtain one.

It’s best not to look left or right at others’ paths, especially when it comes to noms and to what nomination sources appointments might be charged.
USNA has decades of class-building experience, putting the class jigsaw puzzle together in a way that meets their goals.

Just not true. Last year, USNA took 3 direct appoints from one high school near where I live and several others from within the district.
Superior candidates are going to get in even if there are others from close by.

It comes down to your specific slate. I also agree that academies have taken and will take as many from one area as they see fit regardless of numbers.

You are competing with the NAPS candidates on the MOC slates that you both have nominations from. The NAPS candidates are just like other High School candidates. If the NAP candidate wins the slate, he/she will be charged to that MOC. If the NAPS candidates doesn't win the slate, he/she will be charged to a SECNAV nom (again, assuming satisfactory completion of the NOM). Bottom line, if you have a better application than the NAPS candidate, there is a place for you.

A lot must have changed in 25 years! (Of course it would ... that is normal).

When I was at NAPS, the only thing they kept reiterating was "2.0 and go." They never required us to ask for a nomination. So I am assuming they used SECNAV, VP, and Presidential noms for all of the NAPSters while I was there? I am not even sure who I received my nomination from when I got my appointment letter during NAPS!

I went to NAPS almost 40 years ago, and I applied for all Nominations. I was charged to my local Congressman.
