How Scholarship Money Works

I recently won a scholarship for $1000. The awarding organization will be sending the scholarship to USNA for me soon once I fill out the required paperwork. My question is since I don't have a tuition to pay, what all will that money go towards?

The many (hidden) expenses that pass through your account. Congratulations for finding a scholarship that does not discriminate against service academy mids. (Surprisingly, the National Eagle Scout Association is one of those orgs who excludes USNA mids).

Do scholarships have any effect on Midshipman pay? For example, will OP's paycheck increase as a result of him/her directing Scholarship money towards USNA expenses?

My son's school gives a student of the year scholarship and he has won 2 years now. They are cutting him a check for cash before graduation and he plans to invest and save a portion for travel expenses versus paying off the loans earlier.
