My DD was looking at playing club soccer, how difficult is it to make the team? Being a D1 school are the girls playing club at that same caliber? Is there a tryout process for the club teams? Thanks!

All the club teams have different tryout processes, ranging from "anyone can play" to being fairly selective. Your DD will get more information during Blue Rush (the club/teams expo) that occurs at the end of basic before the start of the academic year. Most clubs have a wide range of skill sets, varying from cadets who just decided to pick up the sport at the Academy, to a small number who are at or near the D1 level.

Looking on the USAFA website, I don't see Women's Club Soccer listed. That doesn't mean it doesn't exist, but I do know that the Athletic Department is not a big fan of club sports teams when the Academy also has a matching D1 team (and we do have a Women's D1 Soccer Team). The reason: they don't want their talented D1 players to quit the team for the lower-stress club.

Thanks for the reply. Sorry, it's listed under recreational clubs, it says they play under the Rocky Mountain Collegiate Soccer League.

“the same caliber?”

The girls playing club soccer will not in general be close talent wise to the girls on the USAFA D1 varsity team.

There should be a giant difference in the quality of tryouts

I suspect most playing club sports are below D3 level.

one exception to this might be if the school does not have a varsity team in that particular sport.

But then it’s a numbers game.

If you get a lot of decent quality club lax or soccer players attending school and many of these players fall a little short of varsity a very competitive club team could result.

just based on numbers this is more likely to happen on the men’s side

Not likely to be a problem for this op.

Agree with all that.

I would guess the D3 schools around me would beat the club teams.

Maybe another exception would be individual sports like tennis.

Your point about not being the same caliber is right. Their are exceptions to the rule of course.
