Hello all, I was had a question regarding how I could be notified of an offer of appointment. I have already completed my USNA application completely (including BGO interview, DoDMERB qualified, etc), and I also have the NJROTC nomination. I have applied for my Congressman and Senator nominations but they do not start interviews until December. If I were to be offered an appointment with just my NJROTC nom, would I most likely hear first from my NJROTC instructor, my Candidate Portal, or the Mail? Best of luck to everyone on getting in!

Best Regards,

My son found out when our senator called the house. His portal didn't change for a while (USAFA)

LOL our MOC coordinated a call with the school to tell him. It was a few days late ... after he accepted the offer - which he did immediately.

Our Senator was notified by USNA Admissions that my son would be offered an appointment based on his nomination. He received an LOA in September. Our Senator called my son and advised him of this forthcoming offer and indicated his portal would reflect that change today.

USNA gives the MOC notice first, and gives him/her a few days to make the notification. Then the change is made to the portal.
Not all MOC notify the Candidates, but USNA gives them the opportunity as a courtesy.
(For those that got the notice from the MOC after the portal change, I suspect the MOC received the notice, but was delayed in making the call).
BGO's are not supposed to notify you , although I suspect it shows up in the BGO portal at the same time the candidate gets it . (Believe it or not, BGO's don't monitor status on a daily basis !)

Actually, the Members of Congress/Senators are given a week's headstart on the portal. They are given a courtesy week to make a notification if they wish to before any others are supposed to tell you.

As others have stated, USNA does give the MOC an opportunity to notify the candidate first. With that said however, does not mean that MOC's "slot" is who it is charged to. In all likelihood one will never know, nor does it matter who they are officially charged to. I mention this because many times the candidate personally knows another candidate whose MOC gave them a nom also, and received an Offer Of Appointment, then thinking the game is over. It's an extremely complicated puzzle Admissions puts together for highly competitive candidates.

SO, USNA always gives MOC an opportunity to notify candidate first, right? So, if DS's portal was changed today to reflect congressional nomination received, and he had already received an LOA in August, does this mean that it will be at least a week from today before the portal changes to reflect change in status from LOA to acceptance (now that his only LOA condition, a nom, has been met)? Thanks in advance!

If he has a nom, an LOA, and is medically qualified, he is going to get an offer of appointment.

His portal will change to offer of appointment ... and he will then accept offer.

I forget how long it took for the portal to change to offer of appointment. I believe it was within a week of 3q (which was after LOA and nom) - but not sure there is a time limit.

In my own DS' experience - a week passed - before the portal changed from "LOA" to "Fully-Qualified Offer of Appointment", after he got a nomination. Congrats!

It would still either be a MOC call or portal change. Regardless of who they get charged to, the MOC where the appointee lives gets an opportunity to call. If they do not call then the portal will update after so many days and the candidate will see that update.

Ok thank you so much! I did not realize that the MOC has the chance to call regardless.
