Is any one familiar with any opportunities for cadets at USAFA to do any recreational fishing or hunting? Outdoor activities are a big part of our family, and son was wondering. I know that 4th class year will probably be difficult, but I was thinking later on. Is there much opportunity, and do many cadets participate? What is the policy of having personal firearms on base? Is there an armory to check them in and out of like on other Air Force bases? Forgive me if I seem naive about this, but I haven't seen anything on any of the Air Force information about it.

Don't have an answer to the hunting, but when we sponsored cadets in the 90s and we had one who loved to fish. I know he often fished on the academy. He used to cook his catch in the SQ microwave and gave 26 that fishy smell for days. His roomate who we also adopted, told us that his mates would try to hide his tackle box.

He later came up to AK, stay with us and fished with my kids --lots of good memories. He was one of the guys who got *&^* over pilot training slots that were cut. He was so mad, but as life goes on he married his sister's roomate who was in medical school, she a busy doctor and he has become a house dad. He is a really great dad!

There is a hunting/fishing club at the Academy. I don't know exactly what people do with their guns. Cadets are definitely NOT allowed to store them in the dorms. I don't know about a club storage room. Some keep stuff at their sponsor's house.
